Democrats Health Bill Passes Key Senate Vote Republicans pledge to fight on despite losing early Monday
WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats health care overhaul passed a key test in a party-line vote early Monday, in a dramatic defeat for Republicans that put the legislation on track for Christmas-week passage.
In the run-up to the vote, the escalation in rhetoric was remarkable on both sides of an issue that has divided the two political parties for months.
"This process is not legislation. This process is corruption," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., referring to the last-minute flurry of dealmaking that enabled Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and the White House to lock in the 60 votes needed to approve the legislation.
Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island responded in near-Biblical terms. In a speech on the Senate floor, he said Republicans are embarked on a "no-holds barred mission of propaganda, obstruction and fear. ... There will be a reckoning. There will come a day of judgment about who was telling the truth."
First 60-vote test coming up Whatever else it was, the legislation represented the culmination of a year's work for Democrats, pressed by President Barack Obama to remake the nation's health care system.

R.I.P.
The revolution is on.
You Dims voted tonight but we will vote you oyt later!!!
More govt. takeover of our economy. I think this will be 1/6th of our economy. The Dems have put coal in our stockings.
Freedom Sold to the Highest Bidder, Paid for with your tax dollars.
The only way this makes sense is that the DemonRATs are so drunk with power that they don’t see this for the political suicide it certainly is.
Or, perhaps they know something about rigged elections that we don’t know.
Zero can veto, but he can't appropriate.
This is what I just sent to both Colorado congress traitors:
I have never been as angry or disgusted as I am right now with this government. How dare you vote for this POS legislation that you call health care reform. We all know this does nothing to improve heath care or reduce cost to the taxpayer. What it is about is federal government control, exactly what the Constitution of the United States was designed to prevent. Read the tenth amendment! You took an oath to defend the constitution and yet you voted in the dead of night to subvert it, you are by action a traitor.
I guess the D’rats are calculating that by bringing in 30 million new insured that they will all pull the lever for them and they’d be all re-elected. Good luck with that thinking (sarc)

Whitehouse should listen to those voices in his head.... he has NO CONCEPT of how much a good many patriots long for that day. Left up to me, it would be tomorrow and there would be no quarter given.
Damn those traitors to hell.
Bingo!
It’s over. We can all say that in Nov 2008 America died. It was only a matter of time I suppose.
there are a lot of people that would pull a lever for them...
Cool.
So our dollar should be equal to the peso shortly and we will have government run health care like our neighbors in the north, the North American Union should be sealed in just a few years.
Those tin foil hat guys must have been picking up the right signal all along.
Yes there will Sen.Whitehouse you dictatorial fascist pig .. you assume to use pure force to impose your whim and take the people's God give freedom
The list, ping
If that is the case, all we have to do is win a majority in the House in 2010 and then not fund this stupid thing.
