CBO: Real 10-Year Cost of Senate Bill Still $2.5 Trillion
The Weekly Standard ^ | 12/19/09 | http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/12/cbo_real_10year_cost_of_senate.asp

With Obamacare, you get the good, the bad, and the ugly -- except for the first part.

The Congressional Budget Office's score is in for the final Senate health bill, and it's amazing how little Americans would get for so much.

The Democrats are irresponsibly and disingenuously claiming that the bill would cost $871 billion over 10 years. But that's not what the CBO says. Rather, the CBO says that $871 billion would be the costs from 2010 to 2019 for expansions in insurance coverage alone. But less than 2 percent of those "10-year costs" would kick in before the fifth year of that span. In its real first 10 years (2014 to 2023), the CBO says that the bill would cost $1.8 trillion -- for insurance coverage expansions alone. Other parts of the bill would cost approximately $700 billion more, bringing the bill's full 10-year tab to approximately $2.5 trillion -- according to the CBO.

Perhaps it’s all about our beloved government ELIMINATING our freedom to choose?

Yea, perhaps. It is ALL about government control of our lives. That is the reform. Tyranny.

Well, if it costs $2.5T, I guess that means Zero will keep his promise and not sign it, since it's not either deficit neutral or a budget savings. RIGHT?   WRONG!

Soetero won't sign it because it won't cover illegal aliens, right? (yes, he will!)   "YOU LIE," Barry!

Barry won't sign it because it violates the Hyde Amendment against legislation that keeps taxpayer dollars from funding abortion. RIGHT?   WRONG!

i skimmed through the CBO report looking for the exact language that talked about the 1.8T and couldn’t find it. The Hill article on the CBO score doesn’t mention it either, and I would think they would. What am I missing?

Just agreeing with the Weekly Standard. Where do you have your head at the moment?

If Americans disapprove of this bill by the 61% and growing that polls indicate, and also disagree with most of Obama's major policies, and the Tea Party movement keeps growing and the voters show their dissatisfaction at the polls in 2010 and 2012, then this Obamacare bill can be neutralized, particularly in a Republican House of Reps.

Are you an imbecile? Or a Dim operative? Maybe you are, otherwise why would you be wasting your time posting here. Are you here to convince everyone that it's hopeless and there is no possible way to have a conservative comeback?

Do you even know what you're saying? What Kool-Aid do want me to keep to myself??? That which says conservatives and Republicans can make a comeback, and then turn back much of Obama's damage???

You need to get busy and end that whole Tea Party thing. Those people think they can make a difference and turn back Obama's initiatives. Get busy. Stamp out all those Kool-Aid drinkers, or Tea drinkers, who think there's still hope.

Pfft, 2.5 trillion, the Chinese will lend that to us. Right? Right?

That is why all of this is moot. They are either going to fail to get this through and be ravaged....or they are going to get this through and the US economy will collapse under its weight and they will be done.

It is unsupportable and non-affordable but they want it so bad that they are covering their ears and eyes.

It simply CANNOT be paid for. One of these days a T-Bill auction is going to fail.

We are well past that. There will come a day when a T-Bill auction fails under the weight of all this. When that happens, no bureaucrat is going to get his paycheck.....or if he does it will buy him a piece of gum.

Being ensconced in a job that has no way to fund your salary is pretty meaningless.

Wonder how the CBO calculates figures on a bill that no one is allowed to see before they lock themselves in to vote YEA on it??

If Americans disapprove of this bill by the 61% and growing that polls indicate

The trouble with these polls is that just give %s of support or opposed. What we need is a poll that will ask something like:

Select one of the following

a) I support the senate healthcare bill

b) I do not support it because it spends and taxes too much and allows the government too much power

c) I do not support it because it does not spend and tax enough, and does not go far enough to involve the government in healthcare.

I expect every Republican appearing on talk shows tomorrow will present this data, and more. Interested parties should buy national TV ads for tomorrow to present this data.

How many Americans actually watch those shows, do you think?

The reality figures will multiply that figure by 10 or more!

Just like the original estimates of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The CBO has a history of grossly underestimating these amounts, particularly because these are all Democrat designed entitlements. The CBO covers for them every time, and does what the Democrats tell them to do.

Besides, they make these estimates based on the data and figures the Democrats give them. Nothing more.

But the majority of the public has no clue who or what the CBO is or does. Hell, most of them (85%) cannot even tell you who the Vice President or the Speaker of the House is.

What we need is a poll that will ask something like:

There have been polls which break down the fors and againsts by Republican and Dim. Those would tell you about what your discussing here.

In that assessment, they are incorrect. The real cost of obama care will be the freedoms we had left.

The monetary assessment may be correct, but again, the real cost is freedom.
