Woods voted top athlete of the decade

Tiger Woods has been voted Athlete of the Decade by members of The Associated Press, his 10 years of incomparable golf outweighing nearly three weeks of a salacious sex scandal.

Just like so many of his 64 victories worldwide and 12 majors dating to 2000, it wasn't much of a contest.

Woods received 56 of the 142 votes cast by AP member editors. More than half of the ballots were returned after his Nov. 27 car accident which set off the sensational tales of infidelity that have tarnished Woods' image.

Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor who won the Tour de France six times this decade, finished second with 33 votes, followed by tennis Grand Slam champion Roger Federer with 25 votes.

Woods had more PGA Tour titles in one decade than all but four of golf's greatest players won in their careers.

Given the number of women coming forward, one wonder just what “athletic prowess” they are so impressed with.

If it’s an activity during which you can smoke and drink, does that qualify as a sport? Some people consider sex a sport, after all.

You should see some of the MLB clubhouses during a game.

At one time smoking was allowed on the bench. Now it is, "Well, it looks like he's going down the tunnel to the clubhouse maybe to get that bothersome ankle re-taped."

This is the one thing Rosie O’Donnell and I agree on:

“Golf isn’t a sport! It’s men in ugly pants, walking.”

Not to mention that he defeated Takeru Kobayashi, putting the title back in American hands after eight long years.

I presume if an athlete takes illegal performance enhancement drugs, this will not disqualify one in this poll.

Not only should a golfer never be up for this award, the winnner of this thing should have been from the NFL. I’m thinking Favre, Brady, Peyton Manning, LT...Heck, surprise everybody and pick Donald Driver.

Hey, he does do quite a bit of aerobic exercise.

If that type of aerobic exercise makes you an athlete, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are the athletes of the last two decades!

I was very disappointed in Andre coming out admitting that he had used PEDs; IMHO it greatly diminished his accomplishments in my mind, just as it did with B. Bonds breaking Hank's all-time HR record.

Crystal meth is not generally considered a performance enhancing drug, and his results from that period suggest than it lessened his performance.

Actually, golf uses little scorecards and pencils are used to fill them in.
