Major Garretts in the hall outside the Democratic caucus room and tweeting the word from Tom Harkin. Cant really call this good news, as it makes passage much more likely, so lets call it slightly-better-than-worst-case-scenario news. No more public option:
Asked by a reporter if the Medicare buy-in will be pulled out, Harkin said looks that way, before praising a Democratic health care bill without the two public option compromises.
Theres enough good in this bill that even without those two, we gotta move, he said. All the insurance reforms, all the stuff we wrote so hard for prevention and wellness in there, the workforce development issues that we have in there, the reimbursement based on quality not on quantity theres good stuff in this bill. Its a giant step forward, changing the paradigm of health care in America.
Lieberman said he can (read: will) vote for the bill without the public plan provisions. Reaction, straight off the top of my head: (1) Kind of surprising that neither Snowe nor Collins defected to bail Reid out, eh? Now that hes back to 60-ish, I wonder if they or Nelson, Bayh, Lincoln, etc. will suddenly ramp up their own demands. (2) The Democrats are so frantic to pass something at this point e.g., there was a rumor floated earlier today that Emanuel was pressuring Reid to use reconciliation that Pelosi will almost certainly want to ping-pong the Senate bill. Will the absence of a public option convince Blue Dogs who voted no on the House bill to vote yes this time or will the gruesome polling scare them away?

if only... the Dems are really good about dumping their crappy messes on Republicans... just look at the issues of slavery and civil rights...
I'm starting a new business and I'm only hiring contractors and temp workers.
Even at the hint of being a liberal/marxist or pro government in ANY way they will be sent packing.
Screw the government and anybody that wants to be in bed with them!
Yep.
Bye bye America if this passes in any form.
You forgot the sarcasm tag. That’s assuming you are being sarcastic. Given you’re a newbie...
Who the f do you think you are?
This thing is disintegrating before our very eyes.

Dunno about that. Argh - it’s still 2000+ pages of CRAP (government control/socialist/regulatory nightmare).
OK, this is better but the only good option is to kill this travesty outright. When dealing with DemonRats and RINOs, the concessions always mysteriously disappear after the bill passes. Give these bastards an even chance, they’ll knife you every time. Outright defeat is the only acceptable outcome to this bill.
Instead of debating the bill, why not debate the NEED for a bill at all???
++++++++++++++
That’s a great point (even though all the RATS ignore it.) We don’t even really know how many uninsured *Americans* there really are - they’re so busy double counting and adding in the illegals. Then of course, there are all the young adults that just choose not to buy health insurance. Maybe they should be required to carry emergency room insurance or some kind of health savings account to that effect (for their sake, if I were their financial planner, I’d also recommend catastrophic coverage in tandem with the other two - but that’s nothing that the government can mandate), so that all of the responsible taxpayers aren’t forced to cover their irresponsible butts. But that discussion is so far removed from where this albatross piece of crap bill is.
The vast majority of them probably can’t figure out how to turn the computer on, much less play Solitaire.
Except that the Rats know that no matter how expensive and how wasteful and how bad a government program is, once you create it, especially one where some people get something “free”, it NEVER goes away.
The ENTIRE bill is crap. If it was just one part of the bill that was bad and the rest was good different story. But the WHOLE bill is just horrible, KILL THE WHOLE DAMN THING
++++++++++++++
Any clue as to how the CBO will score this, or if they’ll need to start over if they take this Medicare expansion out? The goal is to push this past Christmas - and the goal is to KILL it.
BTW, it’s a common convention here to say that the bill will pass in some form, and then they’ll just add anything they want in there.
The reason I wonder about that is that this bill is being CLOSELY watched by tens of millions of people - unlike ‘business as usual’ times when they really can add, it seems, anything they want.
Say they do start adding in the public option, abortion and all of it, death panels, et al...
That rumbling you hear right now ahead of 11/2010 will become a deafening ROAR and the smackdown reckoning (I know sounds like WWF) will be stunning. Then we reverse and strip out the bill - just like the RATS are fond of doing with everything Conservatives do. We just play their game in reverse.
Is this preferred? Of course not...but why is it if this passes, that is it, and the fight is over.
I say NO, that’s when we’ve just begun to fight.
This fight is not over by a long shot.
so what is to keep them from adding it in later?
+++++++++++++++
If we lose now, what will prevent us from gutting this later?
When it proves to be a complete turd, how will anyone, besides us conservative bloggers even know the horror stories? The MSM surely wont report them
++++++++++++++++++
They still have some influence, but the RAT press (MSM) is dying and has less and less influence each and every day. Think about the MAJOR stories they missed just this year. And then once those stories came out in the Free Press, the RAT press were forced to finally pick up most of them (except for Climategate.)
What are we to conclude about the former MSM? Their influence is waning, and being replaced by a massive nueral net of the Free Press.
This will matter in the future mop up of the Obama Exxon tanker disaster called Obamacare, if this thing passes.
Well we didn’t..do sh*t to stop it
so we’re going to get JUST what we deserve and we better just shut up and like it too.
I can’t believe people have the balls to whine about this on here. Why shouldn’t they pass health care? You would too if you were unopposed.They’ll will pass Cap and Trade and shove Immigration in your face too.
I blame conservatives for this happening %100
lieberman doesn’t ‘win’ anyhting- He KNOWS fulkl welll it’s just goign to be written into the bill AFTER the bill passes- as will abortion, single payer etc etc etc- ANY RINO that goes along with htis bill or is swayed by ‘compromises’ and payoffs isn’t worthy of their office job
I am actually surprised that there is not more news about Scott Brown. I think he could win with some help-is the GOP trying to run a stealth campaign so as not to wake the libs?
Pity poor Gomorrah. They suffered the same fate as Sodom and didn’t even get a homosexual act named in their honor.
