Part I
In 1997, Matt Damon played the part of a janitor who turned out to be not only a math wizard, but one of the most brilliant men you could find anywhere. Trying to impress an arrogant Harvard student, who thought he knew everything, Damons character quotes from Howard Zinns A Peoples History of the United States. He tells the Harvard kid and a psychiatrist at the hospital he works at that youre surrounding yourself with all the wrong f****n books. You wanna read a real history book, read Howard Zinns Peoples History of the United States. That bookll [explitive deleted] you on your [explative].
A few years later, HBOs The Sopranos had a Columbus Day episode. Tonys kid informs him that they dont celebrate it at school, because Columbus was a practitioner of genocide against the Indian natives in the new land. When Tony asks him where he got that from, he tells him it was from their school textbook , Zinns Peoples History.
Zinns book has now gone through many editions, and became the single best selling text of history that has ever been published- selling over two million copiessome 128,000 each year since his first edition was published over twenty years ago! Schools around the nation actually use it as a textbook. As Dan Flynn notes, the course statement for a history class at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA states that This is an advanced class and all students should have read Howard Zinns A Peoples History of the United States before the first day of class, to give us a common background to begin the class.
So if you want to know why the current generation hews to a left-wing world view, look no further than the influence of Zinn.
actually, the Grant book I bought for my nephew who is a sophomore at JMU. Last I knew, he wanted to major in English and maybe go on to teach high schoolers.....this book was a good collection of famous speeches, writings, etc.
Jooos?
Liberalism is thus not a political ideology or set of beliefs. It is an envy-deflection device, a psychological strategy to avoid being envied.
It is possible to perceive the passions of the Left as frenzies of masochism. What could be more idiotic and masochistic than to oppose missile defense? This opposition cannot be understood unless one dispenses with its rhetoric and rationales and realizes that these folks at their emotional core do not want their country defended.
The lunacy of the "global warming" hoax cannot be comprehended other than that its masochistic advocates do not want their civilization to prosper. The culture-destroying immigration policies that Pat Buchanan warns are causing "The Death of the West" were put in place by those who do not want their culture to survive.
H.W. Crocker III’s “The Politically Incorrect Guide to The Civil War” is a good place to start.
See David Horowitz’s book, “Radical Son”. In it, he talks about how many “red diaper babies”-children of immigrant parents from eastern bloc countries who were enthralled by socialism and communism. Another reason to be wary of immigration, IMO.
Oh, yes. there are a lot out there.
Those intellectuals did not originate the self hate rituals those disgusting rites had been in place for centuries, but they were smart enough to pile on and profit from them.
I’ve read both Modern Times and History of the American People. Yes, there are a few minor errors but overall, I think it was very much a glowing portrayal of America and the American people.
Thanks for the tip; I’ll check out your book.
