Um, the eugenics part came separate from the genetics.

There are posters here who know the history of eugenics and Darwinism and how they are tied together much better than I.

There have been several threads on it, as a matter of fact.

I’m not sure what keywords to use to find them, but perhaps someone else more familiar with the topic does, or the FReeper who posted the threads.

The racism and eugenics movement that was starting when Darwin published his theory was heavily dependent on the ToE as justification for it.

If someone called the Pope — or most people who accept evolution — Darwinists, I would strongly protest the use.

Just so everyone is clear, the eugenics movement was started by the DARWIN FAMILY and they were the leaders of the eugenics movement well into the 20th century.

Prior to the Scopes trial eugenics was the "popular" facet of Darwinism and it remains every bit as integral to Darwinism as the Theory of Evolution.

Both you guys need to read the reference below. It’s kind of recent and presents some quite unexpected material: (note, you can click through to a more comprehensive article behind this brief so do so) http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/49237/title/Horse_genome_added_to_growing_list_of_barnyard_genetics_projects

Kind of incredible too ~ the Post lawyers claimed that our doing it deprived them of "hits" and thereby deprived them of advertising.

I suspect lawyers don't understand the internet.

Mendel's work on genes and inheritance wasn't widely known until decades after he died, so how the "eugenics movement" would be around in Darwin's time to associate him with their "cause" is a mystery to me. Darwin himself clearly had no knowledge of genetics at all. Racism was around in the 1860s, certainly, but the idea that people were racially inferior because of their genes and the traits they inherited was unheard of until the early 20th century.

Again, the claim you're making would be similar to arguing that the Wright Bros. invention of the airplane caused more carnage in the civil war than would have happened otherwise.

If any freepers would like to prove me wrong and show me all the evil eugenic policies and references to inheritance in Darwin's works, they are free to post otherwise.

I am not positive but I think it has become a way of saying that someone worships evolution.

Behemoth the cat said “I do not take your BELIEFS personally. Feel free to believe in whatever you wish. The problem starts when you guys see the need to support your beliefs with hand-crafted ‘science’ (which defies observable reality and common sense) and advertise this publicly. Then it becomes personal, because as a conservative I become associated with this pseudoscience”

So I may believe whatever I wish as long as I don’t voice my opinion? That is why people question your conservatism. It is not because you believe in evolution, it is that you believe in silencing any dissent to your belief.

However creation science fits extremely well with observable reality and common sense. You are welcome to believe otherwise AND you are welcome to say otherwise even on a public forum because you have the freedom of speech. I am a conservative and I believe in the freedom of speech.
