MCALLEN - The U.S Consul General at Matamoros visited McAllen today.
U.S. Consul Michael Barkin says Mexico is a safe place visit, but security is also the number one concern for Americans traveling there.
Barkin was honored today at a reception at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. He has been on the job as U.S. Consul General in Matamoros since September.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS asked him, given the ongoing shoot-outs and violence in Mexico, is it safe to visit? We wanted to know what people who call his office are most concerned about.
Barkin says, "People are concerned about the security, but generally the vast amount of people who travel to Matamoros and Mexico enjoy their vacations. We are not prohibiting or suggesting that people do not travel to Mexico. We are asking that they take precautions, that they be aware of their surroundings."
CHANNEL 5 NEWS also asked Barkin what an American should do if they are across the border and become a victim of violence. He says you should contact police and the nearest U.S. Consulate. Barkin says the primary job of the consulate office is to protect American citizens. He says they have teams ready to work with authorities to help anyone who may need it.

Five abducted at market
A drug dealer suspected of stealing from his own gang was murdered in a market area in Cancun Thursday morning and 12 hours later, four people were abducted from the same area along with a hapless taxi driver who just happened to be there. The four apparent targets of the abductions were local venders who are believed to have been accomplices in the murdered mans treason. A heavily armed group seized the five people without firing a shot and left in three vehicles.

There are no gun battles with drug cartels in Mexico. No, not ever. Mexico is safe. The water is perfectly fine too.
Obama’s propaganda knows no bounds, including getting Americans hurt in Mexico by telling them despite the kidnappings, the murders, and the drug/government wars, they are safe.
Better yet, a photo op from the Anapra, NM Border Crossing. LOL!
There's a shovel-ready project for you!
Our liberal politicians should go there to provide an example for citizens.
