Exclusive Interview: Andrew Breitbart Announces Launch of New “Big” Sites
Mediaite ^ | December 10th, 2009 | Colby Hall

. . .Breitbart is adding to his network of vertical blogs. The newest site to join the Breitbart network is “Big Journalism,” which will launch in January of next year. His target is much bigger than HuffPo — or any other website for that matter. Breitbart is gunning for the institution of mainstream media, or what he calls “the Democratic-media complex.”

In an exclusive interview with Mediaite, Breitbart shares his vision for his expanding network of “Big” right-of-center sites . . .

Breitbart: “If these traditional media outlets can’t be shamed into telling the truth, diverted for doing the wrong story, for simply running defense for one party, and mocked away from creating journalistic rules that only hold those on the right accountable, then it puts us in a position to do more than we’ve done in the past with talk radio and web aggregation.”

In a phone interview with Mediaite, Breitbart says that his new sites will continue to “fight the mainstream media – New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN — who have repeatedly, and under the guise of objectivity and political neutrality, promoted a blatantly left-of-center, pro-Democratic party agenda.” Each site will focus on a different topic, but will follow the same groupblog-like model, which is currently employed by Big Hollywood and Big Government. Each will have a central editor who coordinates contributions, many from current and former journalists around the world.

Big Journalism will be run by former Time Magazine staffer Michael Walsh . . .

He plans, in the not-too-distant future, to unveil new sites as part of his “Big” network, including Big Education, Big Tolerance, Big Jerusalem, and Big Peace, among others . . .

Great! I like the idea. Expose all of them for the Democrat Party radical commies that they are. Expose how they are ruining America. Expose their lies and cover ups.

While I admire Brietbart’s expansion into other areas from Hollywood, government and into media my only criticism is calling everything “Big”something.

Now, one thing I have thought of for years is getting a bunch of fund raising together to put together a site that does nothing but investigate the personal lives of reporters and news chiefs and bureau heads. It seems to me that they are just as much a fair target for outside investigative journalism than any other public figure.

For years we have been forced to lap up their self-promoted belief that they were fair and objective arbiters of truth. However since the New York Times allowed Walter Duranty’s reports about the USSR to be published and his subsequent Pulitzer we know they are a complete fraud.

I make no illusions that the press somehow in the early 20th century developed an idealistic spin and before it was as pure as the driven snow. However with mass media came wide acceptance of their reporting as fact without independent thought required. If they said it/published it/showed it it must be true.

I want to know where today’s “Citizen Kane” is that takes aim at the most powerful media figures in the nation. I want to know why no one has ever done an investigative report on Brokaw, Jennings, Rather, Couric, Williams et al. from independent outlets.

I wish Andrew well and dammit, I’d be such a good muckraker on these bastards since really, I have no fear of what the media could/would do to me.

Yup. Andrew, James, Hannah and all the people at his web sites. Great great writing and investigative reporting. The articles on Big Hollywood. Some of the best stuff on the web by far. Other kudos - FR, Canada Free Press, American Thinker and others.

Who-a! This is upping the heat a bunch of notches. Looks like the genesis of a serious counter-media in progress. This can get big and probably will. The old "standard" media is moldy, corrupt, co-opted by manipulative political agendas and increasingly mistrusted to downright despised by the public in general. I think it's been said many times around here on many threads that the field is wide open for anyone who can muster the resources to come along and actually investigate and report the facts of what is going on in the world around them - the real and unabridged who, what, when, where and how -  which is what really people want.

I’d love to see Breitbart expand with Big Labor and Big Business and how they join with Big Government in a fascistic cabal to steal from Americans.

What I especially like about Breihart is their investigative work along with never letting anything die. They just keep on digging and reporting until he yields results. I also like his guest spots. Considering he just started BG in September...it’s going great. I love it. Drudge watch out...

This sounds cool, but still...There used to be this concept called impartial journalism. If the people who are not politically-correct brand themselves as right-wing then where will the unbiased reporting be?

Though the cynical say that there never was unbiased journalism, we still have to strive for the truth in reporting, not a political agenda.

The American public as a whole needs truth upon which to make decisions, not a politically-motivated media that serves as an excuse/justification machine. That is the reason the Mainstream Media is losing, but if the populists out there react by imitating the left-wing media-pulpit, we would all lose. We have to demonstrate that we are better, more accurate and Truthful.

Journalism advises opinion and writes contemporary history. It makes opinion which then shapes public policy. This stuff can't be well-decided on skewed information.

Does Breitbart have a profitable/break even revenue model yet? How is he supporting his efforts financially?
