The Boy Scouts of America turns 100 today!
I am a Boy Scout leader.
I drive a mini van and tie knots.
I teach merit badges and go camping.
BSA teaches men to be boys, so that boys can be men.
KISMIF means keep it simple, make it fun. It also means kids in scouting, men in future.
I have many sons through the BSA program. It has been an honor to shape so many lives. In the past 3 years we have had 8 scouts from out troop earn the rank of Eagle. Not bad odd considering, that we had about 12 scouts that joined the troop with this group of scouts.
Happy Birthday and Many Years from the mom of two Eagle Scouts...thank you, BSA, for being there with a great program which made a huge difference in the teen years of my two sons.
Just to help out a great cause that is even more important in today's bizarro world, and to celebrate 100 years, I will match contributions made by Freepers up to a total of $500. Will anyone else do the same?
Drop me a note or PM me with your contribution details, including the amount and the local council name (or the National).
One of the best things for turing a man into a boy! On my honor...
Bingo! Eagle 1983! It takes one to know one. I am so glad it is Ronald Reagan’s signature on my card!
Now then.
And it was, as you probably intended to comment, too coincidental that this came out at the 100 year anniversary.
Any parent who misses out on the chance to help their son with enormous gains from Scouting, is losing as much as the son they don't enroll.
Hate to be a buzzkill, but the BSA was officially founded on February 8, 1910. Why the BSA is kicking off it’s birthday celebration now is beyond me, but today is not our 100th birthday.
I have been proud to be a part of 17% of those years, just as a leader. Never was a Scout as a kid, but now the proud Pop of two Eagles and a First Class well on his way. Job circumstances permitting, I will be part of the Chicago Troop for the 100th Jamboree this summer at Fort A.P Hill VA. Now THAT will be one heck of a birthday party!
I would also encourage anyone else on this thread to dig deep and think what your gift can mean to a young boy struggling in today's society to become a man. Much bigger personal satisfaction than a new TV or video console, etc., IMHO.
PLEASE reach out to your friends here and elsewhere and encourage them to match donations, too. I have been blessed in many ways, as have many of you, and ponying up to help a great organization like the BSA is my way of saying 'Happy 100th Birthday - and Merry Christmas'
I am matching donations to the BSA up to $500 (see thread above)
1. Would any of you be interested in contributing?
2. Would any of you be interested in matching other's contributions?
3. Do any of you have any ideas as to how to grow this mission thru FR or elsewhere to help the BSA?
Thanks, Mike
Absolutely. My post was total and complete sarcasm at the timing of this “discovery” was all just a ploy to try to humiliate a person who started an honorable group that has guided many boys in this nation and around the world. Just because the gays don’t like it all the reason to attempt to destroy them as a group.
