Audio: Palin hinting at 3rd-party run?

Allahpundit has this in the headlines, and it’s worth having the audio up here to catch the heavy qualifications Sarah Palin gives Lars Larson in this radio interview from last week. Larson asks whether she’d be willing to launch an independent run for the presidency if Palin was dissatisfied with the GOP, and while she didn’t say no, the conditions she lays down to remain within the Republican Party seem rather easy to meet (via The Right Scoop):

“Real conservatives would try to move the Republican party to the right via the primary system, not ensure democrat wins with third party runs”

But have they tried that right along? And how well is it working?

Just cuz someone spews whatever is required on the stump, doesn’t mean they’ll be that way once in office.

Actually, the same is ultimately true for 3rd party candidates. The only difference is that their reasons for being elected are perhaps a bit more clear to them.

George Soros would like to give you contribute to your third party effort. He knows that this is the only way to get 0bama re-elected. He will be contacting you soon.

I don't think the majority of Americans is ready for a third party (although most of us wish we had something other than what we have).

Four parties would work though. What we have now is Coke vs. Pepsi and many elections going 50/50. It would be good for political competition to break up the duopoly. Whoever starts a new conservative party though should also help start a neo-communist party to split the Democrats in two. Three parties is politically unstable and collapses back into two, but four parties each with about 25% market share can be a stable state. It also means conservatives can start winning about 25% of the time instead of 2.5% now.

If she want’s to be President, run as a real conservative republican and redefine the GOP. It worked for Reagan. 3rd party will get 4 more years of the Obama crime family. guaranteed.

The real problem is the voting system itself.

No voting system should make the worst, first, simply because of vote-splitting.

Exactly. That’s exactly what Sarah Palin did in Alaska. She did not run as a third party candidate for governor. She ran in the GOP primary and defeated an incumbent GOP governor. She cleaned up her Party. That is the way to do it. I predict she is too smart to run for anything as a third party candidate. She knows it is a proven road to no where. Would like to see her run for Congress next year against corrupt GOP congressman Don Young who is vulnerable to defeat. What better cause next year than to replace Nancy Pelousy as Speaker of the House?

Palin’s not going to run as a third party candidate, you can be sure of that. She knows that such a move would guaranty 0bama another term. Besides, why should she, she can win the nomination fair and square against the rather pathetic field out there right now. Does anyone really think that Mitt, Tim, Newt or Huck can win at this point? Going Rogue, and a 2nd #1 bestseller sure to come, and another 15 months of great interviews, events, massive fundraising, and campaigning across the country in 2010, will pretty much guaranty her the nomination.

Consider the source. Allahpundit HATES Sarah Palin. Just a typical bit of troublemaking.

It may, in fact, turn out that the Republican Party decides to commit suicide in the next couple of years, which are absolutely critical for our country. In that case, Sarah might run with a new SECOND PARTY. But it’s premature to say whether or not that will happen. If it happens, it happens.

But she is NOT going to run as a spoiler. She is not Ross Perot. The very thought of comparing her to Perot is ridiculous.

And forget Allahpundit. The guy is a jerk.

Anyone who refuses to vote for her if she does go third party has proven themselves to be GOP Firsters.

I'm a registered independant. I watched this country elect William Jerfferson Clinton because a third party candidate did exactly this. Perot took the votes away from the GOP and put the Dems in power for 8 long years...decimated the CIA and Military and we ended up with 9/11. I didn't vote for Perot then and I won't vote third party now simply because its a lose/lose situation for conservatives and moderates alike.

There are enough socialist nutjobs in the Democratic party now that make it almost impossible to have three parties. Split the Conservatives and moderstaes up for two seperate parties and the Dems will be in power forever. No Thanks.

And I'm no GOP Firster...

Why would she run third party when she could easily capture the GOP nomination?

That's simple.

Many of the 40% self-identified conservatives in the electorate are independents or Democrats.

At least half of THEM (more where I live) hate the GOP brand so much that having that nomination would be a deal-breaker.

Sarah Palin's fraction of the non-GOP conservative vote would be greatly increased if she runs as a non-Republican.

Just between you and me, I have a question for you - how do you propose to get the attention of the GOP party hacks who, by their complacency and sometimes outright cooperation, have allowed the democrats to take the country as far down the sh*tter as they have?

I just finished listening to the entire interview. I found it to be a very good interview.

Again, thank you.

This is why the country club republicans are terrified of palin. Mr. Steele was DESPERATE for NY 23 to not go to the conservative third party.

He gave lip service to the conservative but nothing else in order to have a democrat win.

The country clubbers fear the loss of their jobs as the alleged leaders. Without followers they don’t have any leverage to be interviewed.

They don’t have to worry, that is why the country club set up their think tanks. Hidding places for unemployeed country club republican talking heads.

Have you ever read Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules For Radicals?

One time he was speaking to a group of young Left-wing activists were complaining that the Democrat Party wasn’t radical Left enough to their liking. So what was Alinsky’s advice? BE THE PARTY! Now what simple and brilliant advice. And guess what? They went out and did it. And guess what? It worked look who now runs the Democrat Party: Radicals like BHO, Howard Dean, and Nancy Pelousy. But you have to get out and work for it. If you don’t, non-idelogical party hacks will continue to run the Party apparatus. Always remember what Edmund Burke said, all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. Forming a third party makes not ounce of sense. Taking back the GOP is quite doable and has been done before. Recall 1964, 1980, 1994.
