Audio: Palin hinting at 3rd-party run?
Hot Air ^ | 12/8/09 | Ed Morrissey

Allahpundit has this in the headlines, and it’s worth having the audio up here to catch the heavy qualifications Sarah Palin gives Lars Larson in this radio interview from last week. Larson asks whether she’d be willing to launch an independent run for the presidency if Palin was dissatisfied with the GOP, and while she didn’t say no, the conditions she lays down to remain within the Republican Party seem rather easy to meet (via The Right Scoop):

Why would she run third party when she could easily capture the GOP nomination?

I think of third party advocates as George Soros agents trying to ensure socialist rule.

Real conservatives would try to move the Republican party to the right via the primary system, not ensure democrat wins with third party runs.

The difference between the democrats and republicans is that traditionally the Dems organize from the ground up and the Reps from the top down. The Rep’s plan will not work in the USA over time. Congress has too much power and changes more quickly. Holding the presidency just doens’t get the job done.

Sarah Palin’s entire career and philosophy has been ‘ground up’. The Tea Parties are ‘ground up’. The confluence of the two may yield a totally new Rep party with its traditional strengths intact but with support at all levels of government. It is possible the ‘sea change’ is about to overwhelm the ‘elite’ establishment. A return to original Constitutional government may be under way.

Exactly. And that’s way it’s supposed to be done. You’re supposed to work for it and help out others while you do it.

I’m not saying Sarah Palin is this way—I love her dearly—but in this culture we live in today it is all about me, me, me! As evidence of this look at the vain, arrogant, narcissistic, self-centered, loquacious, ubiquitous, vacuous, pompous, pseudointelluctual, metrosexual, gasbag who currently occupies the White House.

Won’t it come down to one simple question....

Who the Republican Party leaders present
to us and back?

Any RINO or Republican lite will result in a 3rd party run. Period. And I for one, question whether the Republican Party has really learned anything.

Why would she do that?

SarahPAC can collect more money than the RNC.

The media is puuushing candidates again for us. This time, they are trying to push a genuine conservative candidate out of the Republican party and into the 3-P wilderness.

Gee, I can't possibly imagine why they would want to do this...can all of you?

She is simply warning the GOP to straighten up. She doesn’t plan on a 3rd party run. She’s not stupid and if she runs, she will run to win.

From the article...

I see this as less of a story than it seems. It helps to remember that Palin made her political bones as a reformer, an outsider to her state’s GOP.

I agree and I don't believe Sarah wants to to go third party but truly wants to reform the GOP. This article is pure speculation, especially given another recent interview:

"Ideally, sure, a third party or an independent party would be able to soar and thrive and put candidates forth and have them elected. But I don't think America is ready for that. I think that it is -- granted, it's quite conventional and traditional -- but in a good way, that we have our two parties. And I think that's what will remain....I don't think the third party movement will be what's necessary to usher in some common sense conservative ideals.

What?

Republican Party "leaders" don't present candidates. It is the media that pushes the candidates. They will push Mitt. They want to push Huck although that effort may be moot now. And most of all they now want to push the conservative Sarah out to a third party.

If she did go 3rd party, she’d take a lot of us with her. And once we reached critical mass, those of you remaining with the Stupid Party would have to join us or the dems—or become irrelevant.

At this point in time it’s good that she is making the RNC stand up and take notice. She can raise a lot of money because people trust her more than the Republicans.
Sarah, keep it up and scare them (the wayward RNC and rinos) straight! You go ahead and let them know who’s boss and take over the Republican machine.

And hand the election over to the Democrats while were at it. A better strategy is to work within the GOP. It should be a conservative party to begin with. The OVERWHELMING majority of Republicans in the House and Senate vote AGAINST Obamacare, Cap and Tax, and the Porkulous. Why should we allow a small handfull like Collins and Snowe ruin our Party?

Of course a third party would guarantee Democrat victory and insure BHO’s re-election. We don’t have parliamentry system like they do in many European countries. It’s winner-take-all here. Say you have a congressional district that leans conservative. You have three candidates running for congress. A Democrat, a Republican, and a Third Party (conservative) candidate. The Democrat wins 40% of the vote, the Republican wins 30% of the vote, the Third Party candidate wins 30%. Guess who wins the seat? The Democrat of course with just 40% of the vote. It is winner take all in our system. We don’t form coalitions like they do in Europe and Israel. If they want to form a Third Party on the Left—let’s go out and help them. But we should not kill off our own chances.

Again, it will come down to who the Republican Party leaders back. If they get around Romney, Huck or any of a number of RINO’s, yes, yes I would vote 3rd party if Sarah were it.
