Tuesday, Dec 8, is the primary election for the US Senate seat, formerly held by Ted Kennedy. There are contested elections for both the Democrat and Republican candidates. The general election will be on January 19.
The seat is currently held by Kennedy's former aide, Paul Kirk, who was appointed by the governor after well-publicized (and pretty sleazy) vote by the Legislature to have an interim appointee because of their fear that a vote on the Obama health care package might come up before a special election could be held.
We were going to wait until the general election in January to do something on this. But so many people have asked us for our opinion on Tuesday's primary. Recent polls show that most people can't even identify the candidates, much less what their positions are. Apparently the word hasn't been getting out, so we'll do it here.
Here's the lineup for Tuesday's election, and our analysis:

What? No tea party candidate? I’m shocked I tells ye, shocked!
These are actually opportunties for tea party types to run as Democrats.
Liberals pretend to be Republicans all the time, so we should too.
Have one-armed John Silber run.
A truly wasted effort. Conservatives and most R’s don’t win anything major in Massachusetts, and the R’s that do win anything major in Massachusetts are all RINOs. All of the past R Massachusetts Governors are RINOs, and former House member Reps. Conte, Torkelson, and Blute are RINOs. I’m more concerned that the ongoing, six+decades of pro-leftist political patterns throughout the state of Massachusetts are now also going to be repeated at the national level throughout much of the U.S.
Scott Brown is a good man. Spoke to him one on one in March of this year and he is a pretty sharp guy. People are not happy in this state and independents out number democrats, add in the 15% republicans it could happen. Everyone needs to get behind this guy, can you imagine if Fat Teddy’s seat goes over. Think of the message that would send to the rest of the country they can kiss Health Care good bye. Nancy and Harry would have to change their depends. Its going to be a tough fight but there is a chance. This is one of those small little battle that may not mean much but in the end could decide the war.
This election will see the mood of the country. If the democrats don’t win this than the Republicans are still in good shape. If the Republicans lose this race than we still have work to do and thank God we have a little less than a year left to get our acts together. Tomorrow’s election is VERY important!!!
Oops. Sorry I guess we have until January to get ourselves in shape for this election. I kinda wish it was tomorrow. Obama could gain some points by January...
You mean well with everything that you say, and I plan to vote for Scott Brown, both tomorrow and in January. But, the total state voting numbers just don’t add up to any serious victory for Scott Brown. Why would the total registration numbers for just Massachusetts Republicans not go up to, say, 40% of total voters, if there really was a serious chance for victory by Scott Brown? Where’s the total political groundswell of increasing support for Scott Brown? The Massachusetts GOP is a very weak shell of a political entity, and they have been very weak for over six decades and counting. If lucky, Scott Brown will get up to about 38% of the total vote in January, but that’s really it. I really want to be wrong about all of these things, because I’m tired of this long time losing streak by the GOP and by conservatives throughout Massachusetts.
Saw on last nights national nooze that most in Mass didn’t even know that there was an election? It was one the local political newsers, recognized him but don’t recall his name... John something.
