Patient Money
WHEN I stock up on ibuprofen (my painkiller of choice), I typically buy a 500-count bottle of a store brand like Kirkland or Rite Aid. After all, ibuprofen is ibuprofen. Each pill costs me about 3 cents or only one-third the cost of 9-cent Advil.
Yet, when it comes to vitamins which I take only when I feel run down I turn to name brands like Centrum or Nature Made. My thinking has been: Why mess around with quality when it comes to the essential ABCs?
But now that Ive done some research, I might soon change my vitamin-buying ways. Read on to find out why.
Americans love vitamins. About half of adults take a daily multivitamin, according to industry data. And according to some theories, the economic downturn has inspired them to fortify themselves by swallowing more.
Sales over the last decade had been growing by about 4 percent annually. But this year, as more people are taking their health into their own hands, perhaps hoping to stave off doctor bills, vitamin sales are expected to grow by 8 percent to a total of $9.2 billion, according to Nutrition Business Journal, a market researcher and publisher.
About 42 percent of shoppers purchase their vitamins at natural and...

But what if you dont eat well or are chronically stressed out? Then, Professor Rimm says, there may be some benefit from taking a multivitamin. Certain subgroups, including women of child-bearing age attempting to get pregnant, may need specific supplements, like folic acid and omega-3, he added...

FIND A REPUTABLE SOURCE Vitamins and minerals are commodity items, and every manufacturer has access to the same ingredients. For that reason, researchers and scientists say paying more for a name brand wont necessarily buy you better vitamins...

Are you deficient in Vitamin D3?
Did you know that vitamin D3 deficiency can result in Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Depression, Psoriasis, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Kidney Stones, Osteoporosis, & Neuro-degenerative disease including Alzheimers Disease. Eventually, Vitamin D deficiency may even lead to Cancer (especially breast, prostate, and colon cancers). Vitamin D3 is believed to play a role in controlling the immune system (possibly reducing ones risk of cancer and autoimmune diseases), increasing neuro-muscular function and decreasing falls, improving mood, protecting the brain against toxic chemicals, and potentially reducing pain.
Vitamin D3 is both a vitamin and a hormone. It acts as a vitamin when it binds with calcium for proper absorption. Humans cannot digest calcium without adequate amounts of Vitamin D3.
That works for me.
I dont believe in vitamins. Nobody regulates them and if you dont know what you are doing, you could be worse off rather than better off.
I really think New Chapter Organics are good — certified organic in the USA. Check them out. Among others I take this multi.

Hubby has had Crohns for 27 yrs and now has to take a b12 shot monthly due to losing 15 ft of intestine in 2 surgeries. Do you have to do the shots also? His b12 was so low doc said it was dangerous!
What type of surgeries did you have that you think might have been caused by vitamins or minerals?
You are an absolute ninny and everything in your post is wrong. I am now a bit more stupid from just reading your dopey rant.
If this post had come along in the beginning it would have saved me a lot of unnecessary reading.
Of course—chocolate. Works every time.
I've got Crohns too, and while I haven't had a bowel resection, I've got an elevated white blood cell count (13000 - 14000) that just won't come down, and they suspect it may be caused by a combination of long term use of prednisone (20mg/day since 1985) and low levels of vitamin B12. I've been getting the injection monthly as well, but we're going to try a month of my using a 1MCG supplement daily to see if it works at all. If not, I may look into doing the IM injections myself.

I was reading a French history book from the 60s and the author was saying something about “those gum chewing, vitamin eating Americans”. Apparently Europeans aren’t into vitamins.
You DON’T know anything ... don’t you know that vitamins make good rum ineffective. Besides .. everyone knows that a tumbler of Glennfiddich or Weller Select is the bed time tonic of choice. sheeseh ....
Single malt scotch, smooth bourbon ... they do a body good. Vitamins enrich peoples lives .... mostly the multi level scammers.
“I feel better and the explosive upper body strength comes in handy when I’m faced with street thugs late at night.”

A pump shotgun works well in those situations and saves time. Throwing all those thugs around is so exhausting. Charles Bronson got by okay with a .32 revolver but he was a movie star.
I’ve been a weight lifter for almost 20 years ... keeps this 6’5”, 325 lb frame at 7% body fat. (Gets harder each passing year... not the body, the work to sustain ...lol) and I use a high quality pure predigested whey protein once a day to keep protein levels up. I eat 6 small meals a day. The replacement meal diet shakes are a waste of money, it is the protein I am after. And that is the only supplement I take.
I learned a long time ago not to use the super discount, cheap protein. I can’t say that it isn’t effective in feeding muscle, but OH MY GAWD .... you don’t want to be in the same room with me. Wicked wicked wicked flatulence ..... the type that will mag a gaggot oops dyslexia slipping in. Not sure what the deal is, and now that I think about it ya’ll probably didn’t need to know all that.
My doc prescribed 50,000 units of Vitamin D, three days a week. I am glad the month is almost over and I hope it works. It’s nasty stuff.
A friend told me about this several months ago. Really does work.
Big fan of iherb.com here as well.
I take it that you are asserting that cheap vitamins do not use coal tar as their base?
A friend whose husband is a chemical engineer & other things I don’t fully understand — he is incredibly picky about what he puts into his body.
One of the companies that he personally chooses for his vitamin supplementation is Bluebonnet. He does not own any part of this company.

For about 7 months now, I’ve been taking the Women’s formula. And during this period of time, I’ve had more energy, less cravings for snacking and junk food. I’ve gotten back into regular exercise, and daily life feels great! My doctor says my past two blood tests have showed changes for the positive and I’m due for another one this coming week. At my last dr. visit, he said “just keep doing what you’re doing,” and I feel that switching to these vitamins have made a world of difference for me. I have no affiliation with this company, either.
(Prior to this, I’ve long suffered from chronic fatigue, above and beyond exhausted motherhood and military wife syndrome. LOL.)

Mmmm... my prefernce is .45 ACP with laser sights, when I’m faced with street thugs at night.
LMAO !
