The newspaper industry is suffering "market failure" and the government will need to help preserve serious journalism essential to democracy, an influential US congressman said Wednesday. "The newspapers my generation has taken for granted are facing a structural threat to the business model that has sustained them," said Representative Henry Waxman, a Democrat from California.

Besides Waxman's obvious assault on a free press, newspapers like the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel are failing because of their bias. So far since "Climategate" has erupted the Urinal as we like to call it here in town, has run two stories and a cartoon. Which is to their credit, but much of what has happened goes unreported their pages.

Yes, Waxman loves the papers, as they are all Marxist, like him.
Other then that, I have to say that the internet and cable TV doom the newspaper industry.
Even if newspapers were fair and balanced, I have to question their ability to stay in business.
They are the buggy whip of media and information.

The internet has returned news reporting to the days where there was a printing press (website/blog) on every street corner. I say the more the better.

This is a good example of why socialism, communism, Marxism, and all of the other collective types of government are bad for the economy and the citizens.
The politicians invest the taxpayer's hard-earned money in enterprises that are unwanted, unneeded, or, are just too inefficient to survive in the market.
This is the reason that I have been telling my friends for some time that there won't be any "space program" once the US is socialized. The politicians logic will be, "Why spend billions of rockets that don't vote, when we can spend half that much on New Orleans slum dwellers and guarantee votes for our reelection?"

Commissar Waxman wants to make sure you get only the truth, which will be whatever Commissar Waxman says the truth is.
Unbelievable!

These newspapers are as relevant or vital as he is as a congressman. Let’s get rid of both instead.

Cincinnati’s daily paper is failing. I stopped reading it several years ago. There is simply “nothing there”. The “news” is cut and pasted from wire services(with the same typos). The editors may be somewhere in India...

We cannot risk the loss of an informed public and all that means because of this market [liberal] failure," he said. There, that's more truthful.

Same thing all over. Any media that is dependent on paper, printing presses, and a physical delivery system is doomed.

Wait a minute, I think that newspapers are behind the horse and buggy for getting any bailouts.
Both are about as relevant these days.

Waxman not only wants to subsidize the state run media but shut down the opposition as well. He's a poster boy for term limits and should be thrown in jail for violation of his swearing in oath.
