Biggtest surprise of Election Night 2009.
To: LdSentinal
I thought we couldn’t win the NE. At least that’s what the pundits have told us.

Unlike so many other Dems, Suozzi acts honorably.

Isn’t this a liberal county? Hopefully the GOP does a good job there.

Upset win of the year.
Suozzi was however a decent guy, unlike your average democrat.

Maybe I'm not up to speed on things in Nassau County, but I don't see this as such a big win for the GOP because Suozzi wasn't your typical leftist anyway. I think a lot of Nassau County's problems are institutional in nature, not political.
Having said that, it's worth noting that the GOP was able to turn the tide in two key suburban counties (Nassau and Westchester) that have turned pretty "blue" in the last 15-20 years.

It was an anti-tax, anti-incumbant vote, combined with an absence of Obama coat-tails. All of this is a good omen for 2010 for the GOP.
What’s more, is that no one saw it coming. Should send a shiver up spine of all incumbants. Even guys who think they are safe may be gonners before they know it. Like a lot of Blue Dogs.

And the rat comptroller too! For once a recount doesn't result in theft.

Good news is our people won. Bad news is, they have Zero and the rodents crap economy to be saddled with (and unlikely to be resolved anytime soon).

Good post. That’s exactly what happened in 1994.

Republicans picked up both the County Executive and County Controller posts. In addition, Democratic Nassau County Legislator David Mejias, who ran for Congress in 2006, has also conceded defeat.

I’m from Nassau County and Suozzi is your typical NY Democrat. That’s pretty left.
Glad to see him go.

Mejias conceded, too? We won all three Nassau races that went into a recount. What a great cap to a fantastic election night!
So, who’s going to run against that lib Carolyn McCarthy?
