GENEVA — The United Nations called Switzerland's ban on new minarets "clearly discriminatory" and deeply divisive, and the Swiss foreign minister acknowledged Tuesday the government was very concerned about how the vote would affect the country's image.
U.N. human rights chief Navi Pillay said Sunday's referendum to outlaw the construction of minarets in Switzerland was the product of "anti-foreigner scare-mongering."
The criticism from Pillay, whose office is based in the Swiss city of Geneva, comes after an outcry from Muslim countries, Switzerland's European neighbors and human rights watchdogs since 57.5 percent of the Swiss population ratified the ban.

Hey, as soon as Church steeples are allowed to blossom in the Middle East; let the minarets start sprouting in Switzerland.
Seems just a little bit hypocritical to ban Christians building churches in Muslim lands; yet demanding to have their churches and architecture be built without limit in Christian countries.

So much for the minaret having any possibility of being a symbol of peace or diversity. It's just a symbol of subjugation!
Of course it was. That's the whole point. Does a nation with its own distinct culture that influences its architecture, milieu, public festivals, religious functions and settings, cultural or social norms etc., have to accept an invading, destructive, Dark Age culture and its influences? Since when is being "discriminatory" always a bad thing?
Next thing you know, the UN slams the Swiss for not releasing a pedophile.
