Ski Resorts Fight Global Warming; Utah Governor Unsure
AP ^ | Updated: 11/28/2009 07:56:20 PM MST | Brock Vergakis

Ski resorts across the country are using the Thanksgiving weekend to jump start their winter seasons, but with every passing year comes a frightening realization: If global temperatures continue to rise, fewer and fewer resorts will be able to open for the traditional beginning of ski season.

Warmer temperatures at night are making it more difficult to make snow and the snow that falls naturally is melting earlier in the spring.

In few places is this a bigger concern than the American West, where skiing is one of the most lucrative segments of the tourism industry and often the only reason many people visit cash-strapped states like Utah during winter.

But even as world leaders descend on Copenhagen next month to figure out a way to reduce carbon emissions blamed in global warming, the industry is still grappling with leaders in some of their own ski-crazy states who refuse to concede that humans have any impact on climate change.

Chief among them is Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, who says he will host what he calls the first "legitimate debate" about man's role in climate change in the spring.

Earth to the MSM - now, virtually everyone is on to your complete lack of scientific literacy.

Please, burn that journalism degree, and go back to school.

Oh, and check the latest headlines and read about the massive fraud foisted upon us by the so-call “scientists” who made this stuff up.

The Natural Cycle Deniers have a lot of momentum on their side, so we have to be more aggressive in challenging them, even at the most basic levels. I do not let a single NCD drop even the most casual line about how natural cycles aren’t in charge of our environment without confronting them with facts, statistics, and evidence that there is indeed a natural cycle.

Natural Cycle Deniers are committing a crime against nature.

So, the governor calls the global warming meeting not now but in the spring. Timing is everything.

Hah, by wild coincidence you posted four minutes ahead of me...here's my take:

This article shows the momentum the global warming agitprop has created. Here is the clueless take of some Aspen ski resort officials:

"That's just kind of raging ignorance," said Auden Schendler, executive director of sustainability for Aspen (Colorado) Skiing Co. "We're not environmentalists, we're business people. We have studied the hell out of the climate science. To have a neighboring governor not believe it ... It's absurd."

A climate study by the Aspen Global Change Institute is forecasting that if global emissions continue to rise, Aspen will warm 14 degrees Fahrenheit (7 or 8 degrees Celisus) by the end of this century, giving it a similar climate to that of Amarillo, Texas.

Clearly this "study" is of equal (or if possible, lesser) quality to the IPCC model forecasts. You know, the ones that predicted rising temperatures all through this decade, while temperatures have either remained stable or dropped depending on which dataset you examine. Anyone who's been involved with scientific modeling will tell you their predictive power for 2100 is nil. That is, apparently except for the "climate scientists" in the IPCC.

Recently these models have been thoroughly debunked by actual rigorous scientific inquiry, but that news doesn't appear to be widely understood:

Deconstructing Global Warming

The good news is that something like 2/3 of Americans don't believe humans cause climate change, and that number should go higher as Climategate becomes more widely known. :-)

Utah is getting warmer while the rest of the Earth is getting cooler? How strange is that!

Here at the Dallas59 Global Temperature Research Facility we aren't worried about global temps. We are just as qualified as all the others to predict global temps.

*sticks finger in mouth..sticks finger out window*

Everything is fine.

Very difficult to be aware of something one is completely unaware of. I’m sorry you will have to be very specific, as I have no idea how stuff gets in the side bar. Guess I’m about to learn.

A climate study by the Aspen Global Change Institute
Nope, you won't find any bias there.

Interesting, I didn’t catch that, other than perhaps it will take time to schedule the folks who will need to be there for evidence.

All you can do is give them what science you've got and show how easy it is to make some of these changes and tell them they're going to save money," Giles said.

"Why can't we just do it because it makes sense?"

If the only suggested actions "saved money" that would make sense.

However, the bad science of AGW is being used to push a global economic agenda that, if implemented, will kill the US economy while giving other major powers (China, India and Russia) a free pass.

No wonder 0 likes the idea so much!

Actually I got distracted by a visit to the throne room, and a good morning hug while the thread sat idle on my computer. So add about 10 minutes. LOL
