Brazilian Jewish teenagers this week protested what they called their "exclusion" from a national exam for high school graduates set to take place on Shabbat, after a Brazilian court said providing Jews with an alternative date would "undermine equality."
"In some areas in Brazil, such a Rio de Janeiro, observant Jewish students cannot apply to some of the leading universities," said Alex Kingel, 17, from Sao Paulo, who will not be taking the test.
Kingel explained that because Rio de Janeiro's leading university is a federal one - funded by the central government - applicants must take the test, known locally as ENEM. The exam, which is not mandatory, is not necessary for applying to locally-funded state universities.

If these were moslems, then Brazil would definitely go out of their way to accommodate them!
But isn’t such exclusion, or setting oneself apart from the ordinary, part of what goes into being observant? Our Amish and Old Order Mennonite plain people in southeastern Pennsylvania miss out on most of the technological and material advances of modern life when they observe their sect’s rules, but don’t seem to complain or demand a compensatory alternative when they, for instance, can’t take advantage of Best Buy’s best internet-only electronic gadget bargains.

It’s not like Jews were unaware of this situation for the last 500 years.
Brazil has been holding theor college entrance exams on Saturday for the last 500 years?!?
WTF?
Not likely ~ more likely that an Iberian country, or it’s colonies, is highly unlikely to accommodate Jewish holy days.
