There may need to be a few more “fat lips” to go around if this nonsense doesn’t end soon!
1) There is NO upside for U.S. Troops to take prisoners anymore.

If they go to prison for punching a terrorist, common sense would digtate that their Commander-in-Chief would pardon them before they even set a foot behind bars.
What kind of American could possibly object to this?
Let’s get a head count.

When your CIC’s mentor tried to kill soldiers, why should anyone be surprised which side he’s on?

“He knows us well enough to know we will let PC be a suicide pill for freedom!” I'm not a soldier, but I don't think this is an issue of being politically correct. It's an issue of military discipline. The crime the man committed—killing four American civilian security guards, mutilating their bodies, and then celebrating while his followers strung their dead bodies over a road way—is completely disproportionate to his beef with the US military—receiving a fat lip from a navy seal. Nonetheless, the seals have to maintain discipline. They could have been given a rebuke, but they've challenged that and asked for a court martial trial. I hope they are acquitted, but the officer in charge probably had no choice but to proceed with the trial as a matter of military discipline.

I wonder, back in 1969 at the age of 17, would I have enlisted during wartime knowing that I may face criminal charges for assulting the enemy?

Giving an asshole a fat lip is nothing. Patton is rolling over in his grave over this.

Anyone know Ahmed Hashim Abed’s background? Was he a foreigner, one of Sadam’s thugs or one of many criminals in Fallujah at the time?
