"I'm not a soldier, but I don't think this is an issue of being politically correct. It's an issue of military discipline. The crime the man committed—killing four American civilian security guards, mutilating their bodies, and then celebrating while his followers strung their dead bodies over a road way—is completely disproportionate to his beef with the US military—receiving a fat lip from a navy seal. Nonetheless, the seals have to maintain discipline. They could have been given a rebuke, but they've challenged that and asked for a court martial trial. I hope they are acquitted, but the officer in charge probably had no choice but to proceed with the trial as a matter of military discipline.

This is a war. Playing footsies is a dangerous thing. Giving an asshole a fat lip is nothing. Patton is rolling over in his grave over this.

The Seals pushed it to a court martial when they didn’t need to. Who knows, the captains mast might have ended up with an official clearance and an unofficial commendation from the captain “but don’t let anybody hear that I said this.”

I agree with you, Blackbart.223.

“Giving an asshole a fat lip is nothing. “

Compared to what he did, certainly. His complaint is asinine, given that he killed four people, mutilated their dead bodies, and celebrated while their broken bodies were strung up. But....

“This is a war. Playing footsies is a dangerous thing.....”

In war, a breakdown in discipline can get Americans killed, right? I'm sure this is particularly true for special forces. The officer has to follow through. Discipline broke down, and the officers job is to deal with that.

It's not our officers who are acting despicably, it's Mr. Abed. He got socked in the kisser after killing four Americans. His behavior isn't what we Americans would call manly. It's sick. But given that he did file a complaint which suggests that US military discipline broke down among members of our elite forces, the officers have to look to it. I don't think this is a matter of political correctness,it's a matter of running a disciplined and effective military.
