The Seals pushed it to a court martial when they didn’t need to. Who knows, the captains mast might have ended up with an official clearance and an unofficial commendation from the captain “but don’t let anybody hear that I said this.”

Why is there even a discussion on this? They punched an enemy in a war zone. The guy got a fat lip. That is pretty mild in a war zone. What are thinking?

That's true, but they may have had very good reasons for doing so. They could have received some sort of official rebuke instead, but that may have killed future prospects for promotion in elite units. They may also have felt that the principles at stake were worth taking a stand for. There decision reflects confidence in their fellow soldiers, that they will reach the right decision.

they chose the court martial because they probably thoght the captains mast was bullsh@t. This was another PC prosecution by REMF that they probably think is cr@p. So in order to keep a. Administrative reprimand out of their jacket they chose the full court martial in order to give the finger to the dip sh@t that filed the charges to earn his PC promotion.
