What have Republican presidents done to reverse the policies of Franklin Roosevelt?

Posted on 11/25/2009 8:14:01 PM PST by cradle of freedom

We have had six Republican presidents since Franklin Roosevelt. Have anyone of them done anything to reverse the policies of FDR?

At least they haven’t selected blatant Communists like Henry Wallace as running mates.

They have only slowed it. I will in the future
never vote for the lesser of 2 evils. I will vote on principle only.

Ronald Reagan took the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 28%. Ronald Reagan reversed the idea of government spending driving economic growth which under Roosevelt failed to reduce unemployment prior WWII to Reagan’s free market approach which ended the modern scurge of inflation and recorded record low unemployment.

I can go on.

That's because both parties are statist. The only difference between them is the direction in which they want to grow the Federal government.

The parties have competed with each other for the institution of common supranational goals since the advent of the UN. Period. Currently the Dims hold the goat of the Afgan national game as applied to American politics (Buzkashi). The American public is the goat.

Irrelavant. The national debt as a percentage of GDP was reduced under Reagan. He grew the GDP, unlike the current president, who is reducing it while exploding the debt. That's the key.

"I will vote on principle only"

then be prepared to have dozens and dozens of AL Freakins around because the rats love nothing better than people like you throwing votes to a third party and giving rat after rat victories....

Al Freakin would never be a senator if close to 500,000 votes for a third party candidate had gone for Coleman....

elections have consequences....

let us not hide the fact that Ronald Reagan worked mostly with a rat majority in Congress....

you too young to remember David Stockton?.....he had all sorts of ideas about SS and taxes that the rats wouldn't allow....

The only thing I can think of is that they lowered taxes. But none of them cut spending or cut the bureaucracy, which just continued to grow, and grow, and grow.

Reagan did try to cut spending for the first six months or so, but it was hopeless with a Democrat congress refusing to cooperate. So basically he gave up on that.

That history suggests that if Obama passes his health bill, it cannot be reversed. Not unless the whole damned system collapses, which is certainly possible.

The Republicans have been unable to cut even small programs, like the funding for PBS, let alone big items like the totally useless Department of Education.

Let us get REAL!

Swallow your ego and your pride and admit that Reagan did the best that could be hoped for!

The truth is, Federal Revenue exploded under Reagan.

Tax rate cuts ALWAYS increase revenues.

However, spending went up even faster.

Presidents do not have the POWER to do anything but VETO, and when you are fighting the Evil Empire, there are other priorities.

Budget bills originate in CONGRESS!

Go after the liberals in CONGRESS!
