Lawmakers propose "War Tax" to pay for Afghanistan

No link for this as I just heard this being reported on FOX News. It appears that some liberal lawmakers, Charlie Rangel, David Obey and a couple of others may be proposing a "War Tax" on the wealthiest of Americans to pay for any upcoming troop surge in Afghanistan.

If there is such a thing as poetic justice...this is it. They would effectively be making all of the rich, anti-war Hollywood leftists pay for a war they have claimed to be against for the past 8 years.

Hope and Change!!

Yeah, you know, spread the wealth around, like to Afghanistan. But first root out all the corruption over there.

Every day some idiocy. I hope the nation survives this guy.

I found out today the Daniel Gilyeat (Extreme Makover Marine) is running against our only commie who pulled out of the Kansas Congressionl race yesterday. Hot diggity! Johnson County! He's a died in the wool conservative.

The thing is the rich will not be paying this tax WE will be paying for this tax because we who make up the unwashed masses do not have tax attorneys and accountants to help hide what little money we have left after paying taxes.

I agree. Allow Hollywood to pay for the war. I'm in the mood for some sweet justice. Heck, maybe even Al Franken will have to give up some of his wealth. Better yet, Michael Moore. Then there is Nancy Pelosi and Al Gore who are very wealthy. uhmmm. There's that Penn fellow who worships Chavez. He could give some cash for the effort too.

Go Charlie go. Great idea. Tax'em til they feel the love for Obama.

“Commercialize the war. Sell sponsorships for the different units. Hell we could have the Nike symbol on uniforms. GE sponsoring bombs. Or we just put it on the tab for future generations.”

- Man you cant make this stuff up. Commercialize?? You might think thats a great idea *now*..until in 10 years when we have SEALs and Force Recon guys fighting to the death in some gladiator arena under Obama’s thumb. Don’t think anything is beneath Obambi. If it was good enough for Nero and Commodus..

I heard his worthless comment about only military families sacrificing for the war. Any tax imposed will also be paid by military families as well so he just wants another burden put on military families.

When we are in "theater" our pay is tax free. Our spouses pay is taxed, but the troops pay is tax free. Our pay should be tax free all the time IMO. Honestly in reality a good number of us don't really pay taxes anyway, I have one E-6 income and four kids, I don't get any government assistance (although I did qualify when the kids were younger), but when it is all said and done, with the tax credits and all, I get back what I pay so I don't really "pay" any taxes.

LOL,sounds like a plan to me. Maybe he should have passed around a collection plate at his state dinner last night. His worshippers could have helped fund their dear leader’s “Overseas Contingency Operation”.

I bet Zero is thinking of taxing military pay for those in war zones.
I say nothing surprises me anymore, but it does. I do not like ‘anger surprise’.

Let me get this straight:

One of the few Fedgov responsibilities as enumerated in the US Constitution is now to be used as a means to lay even MORE taxes on us?

What? The Fedgov can spend a trillion here, a trillion there, but can't redirect a few billion from their pet projects to conduct a REAL war against our sworn enemies? Pfft!

Rush mentioned this yesterday during his broadcast and was thrilled over the possibility of seeing the Dim’s propose a tax.

I think he missed the point, long with others. This could be a very good move for the Dim’s. A tax on the war will make it unpopular and it will create pressure to end it. This plays right into the Dim’s playbook.

"...but when it is all said and done, with the tax credits and all, I get back what I pay so I don't really "pay" any taxes."

As you shouldn't. That's the very least America should do with such low pay for such high risk. Being 11 years ex-Navy, I know of the sacrifice and the "poverty pay" in the lower ranks.

Thank you for serving, Sir. All military are always in my thoughts.

Absolutely insane Obey.

I’m not pleased to see Steve King of Iowa say he’d consider this as an option. I appreciate he did say it would be a last resort for him but still.

Not an option, period.

Taxpayers have been raped enough.

These ass clowns can stuff their tax, stop spending money on crap they have on business trying to control.

The Goverment’s only job is to defend our shores, secure our borders, provide a common currency within the United States and then keep their noses out of individual freedom’s and the rights of the individual States.

Otherwise these clowns can KMA!

Typical politics. Libs are all upset that Obama is keeping his campaign promise, they were sure he was lying like he was on taxes. That is why they never complained about his promises during campaign.

Honestly, Bush should have been forced to raise taxes to pay for Iraq, as democrats should have to cut social spending to pay other spending.

The rule should be, to grow government you must alienate your base.
