A Republican political hopeful interested in serving as governor of Massachusetts announced Monday he has chosen Richard R. Tisei, an openly gay state legislator, to be his running mate in the 2010 gubernatorial election.
"Want you to be the first to know: I've chosen State Senator Richard Tisei as my running mate," Republican Charles Baker wrote on his Twitter account. "Excited about this team."
In the photo at left, Baker stands to the left of Tisei outside the civic center in Wakefield, Mass.
Baker is the former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and a former adviser to two Republican governors. He has known Tisei for years, the Boston Globe reports, and Tisei's years in the state legislature will make up for Baker's limited political experience.
Tisei, who the Globe called an "only-in-Massachusetts character," publicly disclosed his sexuality to the newspaper last week, though it was widely known.
"It is not exactly a news flash," he said. "I don't think people really care these days."
Tisei played a key role in retaining marriage equality in Massachusetts. In 1986 he told the Globe, "I broke people's preconceived notions about what a Republican is... We have to go on breaking the stereotypes."

Or possibly behind him.
Issues like same sex marraige?
It's probably looney-tunes like him who are pushing for "Gay Marriage" so much.
Cheers!
Baker....you are an IDIOT! NO ONE DECENT is going to vote for your ticket.....you are TOO STUPID TO WIN.
The linked one below is a few months old. The latest ones are rather left to this one. I mean really astonishingly more left.
Unbelievable.
Nice straw man. I was talking about politics.
Nice straw man. I was talking about politics.
There are seven open gays in the Mass State Legislature. Tisei is the only Republican. It looks like he came out just recently, though he was so in favor of gay marriage that there were rumors beforehand.
As a Mass. resident, I can vote against Baker in the primary and for former independent turned Republican Christy Mihos, whose dubious participation in the last race allowed Deval Patrick to win.
If Christy loses the primary, I suppose I can vote for independent Tim Cahill, a former democrat who now claims to be an independent fiscal conservative.
I had thought Cahill was the ringer in this race, entering it to allow mini-Bama Deval Patrick to win ala Clinton with an under-50% majority. Now I’m wonder if it isn’t Charlie Baker who is the plant.
One day I’m moving outta here...
Well, good thing the homosexual lobby isn’t political, or my question would be relevant. Nice dodge.
I’ll just mark you down as being firmly on the side of the fecal lovers.
I agree GatorGirl. If they do their job, they’ll sexual preference doesn’t
bother me. As many homos and lesbians as there are (and it surprised me as to how many there are) it doesn’t make sense that they not have a life, as long as they keep their exhibitions private as much as heterosexuals are required to do.
I personally think mothers of homos and lesbians were subjected to something that made babies sex go haywire through no fault of either. Who knows what this guvmint has subjected us to over the years. Now we have more who knows what from other countries to contend with as well.
Us conservatives have got to quit casting those stones and get with the times .
Which says that’s there no winning in Mass.
As long as they keep the Massholes south of the NH border, I’m fine with that.
Watch it with big tent pole thingy , Massachusetts GoP.
“Us conservatives have got to quit casting those stones and get with the times.”
What times would those be? Rome, circa 400AD, in the bathhouse? I think we’ve already seen how that ended.
Yeah, we should totally get with the times. Nearly every other industrialized nation has socialized medicine. We should get with the times. Screw principles.
The Constitution could probably use a little updating too, eh? Bring it up to date, get it with the times...
I’m with you GatorGirl. Count me amongst the non-bigots who judge a candidiate by his/her stance on issues and consistent execution..
I certainly care and would never, ever vote for a homosexual.
Mihos had no impact on that race, he got all of 6%. Patrick won in a majority landslide. Slick Willard left his hapless and unqualified Lieutenant to try to hold the Governorship, and with predictable outcome, she barely got 1/3rd of the vote. He couldn’t have cared less.
****Count me amongst the non-bigots who judge a candidiate by his/her stance...****
Would that be a wide stance? LOL!!!!
Homosexual “marriage” and indoctrination of school students, being taught homosexualality is healthy and normal are major issues to me. Again, I will never knowingly vote for a homosexual.
