Despite Protests, Mass Animal Sacrifice To Go On As Planned in Nepal

November 20, 2009

Katmandu, Nepal -- A Hindu festival in which thousands of animals are expected to be sacrificed will go ahead as scheduled in southern Nepal despite protests, organizers said Friday.

The Gadhimai festival, celebrated every five years, is attended by many Hindus from India as well as from Nepal. More than 200,000 buffaloes, pigs, goats, chickens and pigeons are expected to be slaughtered this year on Nov. 24 and 25.

Organizers said they will not bow to "interference" from animal rights and religious groups that have held protests in Katmandu and in the festival area in Bara district, about 100 miles south of the capital.

"We will not stop this centuries-old tradition now. This is our religion, belief and tradition and we will continue with it no matter what," said Motilal Kushwa of the organizing committee.

Kushwa said thousands of people have already arrived at the site with animals meant for sacrifice next week. Participants believe that animal sacrifices for the Hindu goddess Gadhimai will end evil and bring prosperity. Many join the festival from the state of Bihar in India, where animal sacrifices have been banned in some areas.

Critics say the killings are barbaric and conducted in a cruel manner.

“200,000 buffaloes, pigs, goats, chickens and pigeons”

Cows are considered “holy” and will not be sacrificed to the goddess in question. The non-holy animals are fair game.

So when they slaughter them do they consume them?
In essence a one day “pig out” for Hindus...

As long as people don’t fly plane loads of screaming women and children into buildings in the name of Allah, they can do what they can worship as they wish in my book. A religious event which sacrifices animals which I believe might be consumed, is not too far past a Pork Festival with mysticism. If India was a mostly Christian nation it would be different, but things are what they are.

But ... but I thought we must, for the sake of diversity, respect other cultures and practices, even if we find them repugnant?

So where’s the tolerance? </HEAVY sarcasm!

This is inhumane.

Hindus should be using Muslims instead.

That way, everybody wins.

Hinduism is a pantheistic legend with animal-god depictions that include monkeys, baboons, and reptiles, and barbaric rituals confined to a small section of the planet flooded with illiterate masses.

Actually, they should both be using each other. Then everybody wins.

Do you think the White Housed is closely monitoring this development for emulation on the WH lawn?

Hinduism is an umbrella term in some ways...not all sects abstain from meat eating, and the history of animal sacrifice for some deities there go back to the dawn of time...

Yes, but notice that people make it their business to keep animals from being killed in the name of their religion (Nepal), but some of those same people go out of their way to ignore the fact that some kill people in the name of their religion (Ft. Hood).

Bless the Beasts and the Children.

Matthew 19:13-15

Most of the world brutalizes animals and this country for sure brutalizes children.

I don,t know of any way to kill an animal that is not cruel,
however killing for the so called sacrifice is wasteful.

I guess it is thier business but when they are hungry we will surly feed them just like we do every one else.

Eat, drink and be merry, then get the the responsible people to feed them when they are starving.

Every one looks to the U.S to feed them and take care of all of thier problems while they stab us in the back and do everything they can to turn us into a third world country.
while the leftests in this country are doing everything they can to help them do it.

We have enough problems of our own, maybe the socialist hittler s.o.b had a good idea, just destroy everyone else before they do it to you.

We welcomed every one to the shores of america so they could
enjoy the freedom that we enjoyed, now they have taken over america and made it just like the cesspools from where they came. anti God, anti constitution, goverment elite.

Why is it that people will leave places like L.A or new york city because it is filth and go to a place that is fit to raise a family and then do everything they can to make that place the same as where they came from?

Agree 100%
Pat Buchanan’s “Death of the West” is a must read. This is why all chain migration and issuance of B1 visas need to end.
