Barack Obama dream fades as China visit fails to bring change
The Sunday Times ^ | November 22, 2009 | Tony Allen-Mills

Posted on 11/21/2009 3:39:42 PM PST by george76

Even his allies feel let down by the president’s lack of progress both in Asia and at home.

even one previously friendly newspaper noted dismissively: “Obama goes to China, brings home a T-shirt.”

Nor was the steady decline in the president’s approval ratings ...

The real problem may be Obama’s friends — or rather, those among his formerly most enthusiastic supporters who are now having second thoughts.

The doubters are suddenly stretching across a broad section of the Democratic party’s natural constituency. ... anti-war liberals depressed by the debate over troops for Afghanistan; and growing numbers of blue-collar workers who are continuing to lose their jobs and homes.

Obama’s Asian adventure perceptibly increased the murmurings of dissent when he returned to Washington last week, having failed to wring any public concessions from China on any major issue.

For most Americans, the most talked-about moment of the trip was not the Great Wall visit but his low bow to Emperor Akihito of Japan, which the president’s right-wing critics assailed as “a spineless blunder” and excessively deferential.

Perhaps most depressing of all for a small number of influential Washingtonians was the little-noticed resignation of Gregory Craig, Obama’s former White House counsel, who is widely believed in legal circles to have been made a scapegoat for the administration’s difficulties in resolving the future of Guantanamo Bay.

Craig was a key campaign aide to Obama and played the role of Senator John McCain in rehearsals for television debates...

Elizabeth Drew, a presidential biographer and member of the Council on Foreign Relations, described the effective dumping of Craig as “the shabbiest episode of Obama’s presidency”. Drew blamed the “small Chicago crowd” that surrounds the president for undermining Craig’s position with a series of anonymous leaks...

He can bow to the Japanese emperor and apologize for the U.S., but in the end most countries aren’t too thrilled with him. We here in the States aren’t the only ones who are not charmed by this liar.

The picture of the Lone OBOZO on the GREAT WALL said much!!!
The Chinese Leaders would have been by his side “IF THEY WANTED TO BE SEEN WITH HIM!” That is the protocol at The GREAT WALL! OBOZO WAS ALONE!! That wasn’t a desired result..:-)

Or maybe, just maybe, the real problem is with Obama himself...

I see that the Chinese government caused a huge loss of face for Zero. This was certainly planned. Considering that Zero’s idea of ally is to follow Zero’s orders, the Chinese are not going to be our ally.

my family are over in England and the media and the folks on the street are now saying he is showing lack of leadership, no experience, over his head, got a free pass, not vetted, no knowledge of foreign affairs.

Maybe if the media over here did their job others including the cult of obama will wake up.

saying that when was the last time anyone saw an obama sticker?

I never see one , Granted I live in a republican part of Fl which is st johns county but even when I travel IO never see one which is quite a downer as I used ot enjoy asking them questions knowing they are just too thick to answer them.

the chinese did what they planned to and that was to make obama look stupid at the great wall and it worked as that photo is all over the world.

He is standing alone and in a weak position.

Now with this Govt take over he is now even weaker and so is his party.
Here is to another Carter which brought us 12 years

today you do not need to fire a shot to invade, . They can do it through immigration or buying the country.

bozo and the left have not figured that pout but they will when they lose their voices and see homosexuals getting stoned to death in the street .

I live in MN...I see them every day and only one has been scrapped off that I’ve seen which doesn’t surprise me. Minneapolis is one of the most liberal voting places on the planet. I love the city, it’s great, has lots of cool things but is full of some whacked out ideals.
