No. Not at all. No more than a cop shouting to a robber, "Stop or I'll shoot."

A blackmailer gets personal gain from the threat; hey also make it under the cover of secrecy. You can't get any less secretive.

No, this is not blackmail.

Blackmail is done privately to extort money or goods. The secrecy is the whole point, if the crime or scandal is exposed the blackmailer loses his hold on the victim.

This is a group of concerned citizens trying to shame the government into doing its job. They aren't seeking any monetary gain, nor are they doing it in secret -- they're doing it VERY publicly.

If Holder wasn't trying to shield ACORN and the administration (and that in itself is likely the crime of obstruction of justice), he wouldn't be in this mess.

Me neither. I'm not too interested in any phony investigation by the Democrats who will undoubtedly supress evidence and portray Acorn as the victim of (gasp) bigotry. Release the tapes near the election anyway. The Dems always set the rules of engagement and they wouldn't hesitate for a second to release these tapes just before an election.

Hardball political negotiation is sometimes indistinguishable from "blackmail."

Playing your cards without getting their full negotiating value out of them is the sign of amateurs and losers.

This is war. Real war. Just short of a shooting war. This is important to remember.

The goal? We win, they lose.

"Sounds like blackmail to me. I'm not pleassed to hear this."

Blackmail is a clandestine attempt to extort money or favors.

(And is against the law.)

Publicly telling someone you are going to do something if they don't do their job isn't illegal.

Sounds like hardball to me. Maybe you should stick to softball; it sounds more your level of play.

Not blackmail. The facts. Mr. Holder should be filing a RICO case against ACORN. It’s called ‘justice’.

Blackmail??? Isn’t that a threat that is not publiclly known? So just what about forcing the enemy’s hand do you have a problem with?

‘Sounds like blackmail to me.’

You say it like it is a bad thing.

This is the type of extortion that we can use, like a boss telling an employee ‘Do your job or I will fire you!’

The parenthetical phrase, “...or we will hold out these tapes until the 2010 election cycle”, is the phrase which bothers you. If Holder does nothing, then in his mind there is no fault with ACORN and Breitbart has the right to speak freely. No harm, no foul. It is not blackmail to ask Holder to do his job.

It's not blackmail when you tell your elected officials to do the right thing by doing their job.

It's only blackmail when you extort the politician to do the wrong thing.
