High unemployment depletes fund (Tax on Employers will go from $8 to $100 per employee)

TAMPA - Business owners in Florida are about to get hit with a big tax hike: starting January 1st, all Florida businesses will have to pay skyrocketing unemployment compensation taxes to replenish the unemployment compensation trust fund.

With the tax hike, the minimum tax will jump from $8 an employee to $100. The maximum will climb from $378 a worker to $459.

This will result in more layoffs. At that point, companies will go out of business. Florida will even less money.

It’s already dead here. Sundays in DT L.A. is a ghost town. Went to Carl’s Jr and there were 3 customers, including myself at 2 pm. And this was the financial district..

Yeah, not surprising... the only time I go to KA is either in-transit or to visit family.

Sad, used to be a thriving place just not that many years ago when I lived there.

Per day? Per week? Per month? Per year? The article gives no hint of how expensive this really is. $100 for a year for a full time minimum wage employee is under 1%, so I doubt it is a per year rate.
