House Dem: 'Growing consensus' among liberals to dump Secretary Geithner By Jordan Fabian - 11/18/09 06:50 PM ET

A Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) member said there's "growing consensus" among liberals that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner should step down.

Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) said Wednesday that he and other liberal House members are becoming increasingly tired of Obama administration economic policies that they say are too focused on maintaining the stability of Wall Street firms and largely ignore "Main Street."

"A growing consensus in the caucus [believe that Geithner should be removed]," DeFazio said on MSNBC this evening, adding that some lawmakers are "considering questions regarding him and other economic advisers."

DeFazio said that lawmakers have not yet drafted a plan to remove Geithner. The lawmaker also took aim at top Obama economic adviser Larry Summers for furthering many of the same policies favored by Geithner.

"We need a new economic team," said DeFazio.

The veteran congressman specifically mentioned last year's bank bailouts and the Geithner's handling of the collapse of insurance giant AIG. At the time, Geithner was head of the New York Fed in the Bush administration.

"We may have to sacrifice just two more jobs to get millions back for Americans," the congressman added.

Get that SOB out of there, indict, try, convict and off to prison with him, then go after the others.

IMO, this is fit for the ‘breaking news’ sidebar. This is pretty important.

Well, now I guess the only question is: Who is the 2nd smartest man in the universe?

For a first I tend to agree with them........... (re firing Geithner)

I don't like him much either, but this might fall in the "be careful what you wish for" category. "Saving Main Street" seems to be synonymous with housing support programs, make-work jobs, and favoritism directed spending. Look now at how the FHA is only requiring 3.5% down on homes, and how its defaults are climbing while its equity has shrunk to essentially nothing. Multiply it by what Obama or Barney Frank would call a "Main Street focused policy", and you've got the recipe for a new set of disasters.

Turbo Tax Timmy Geithner should never have been in that position.

To bad it’s not for seeing the light of how bad he is. But rather solely political move on their (Congress’s) part. Hope they can exert enough pressure to make it happen.

Their is no such thing as a ‘vote of no confidence’ like the Brits have.

Guess I should just be happy he’s gone ... soon. Replaced by someone who actually knows something.

Take Helicopter Ben Bernacke with him.

"We need a new economic team," said DeFazio.

What team? There are already dozens of positions empty. I hate Geithner... but lets not forget Obama doesn't have an economic team assembled yet. Which tells me Obama has a "progressive" shadow government running things right now. Geithner's just the tip of the iceberg.

Geithner is so bad that I guess I don’t care how he is forced out or who does it.

Their most likely explanation: He did not pay his taxes.

In other words, “I’m shocked... shocked... that there is gambling here.”

“We need a new economic team,” said DeFazio.

Why stop at Geithner. Can them all, from the President down.

Nope...keep him.

"Better the devil you know, than....."

Besides, the great one, the all holy islamic muslim-in-chief will just appoint a "Money Czar" (probably the head of ACORN) to take his place.

Then what???

We also need a new Atty. General.

One who has a law degree from someplace other than ACORN.

But....we must all remember that the all holy islamic muslim-in-chief will just appoint a "Law Czar".

Then what will we do??

Another case of Obama using smoke and mirrors to deflect any blame away from himself, and what he's doing that's hurting the economy, our war efforts and our Nation.

his father was Ann Dunhum’s boss over her work in Indonesia.

his grandfather was an advisor to Eisenhower..and ...a VP at Ford.

cosy little relationships...and very likely some Spook related work in there somewhere.
