SINGAPORE - Looking to tread terrain still untouched by foreign stag expeditions? Want to unwind in luxury or drink up the sun? Lonely Planet lists the world's top 10 party cities in its new guide, the 1000 Ultimate Experiences.
1. Belgrade, Serbia
The long years of bad press that kept Serbia off the map have now passed, and foreigners are now realizing what locals always knew that Belgrade really rocks. With an exuberant population and its legacy as an intellectual hangout, Belgrade offers varied nightlife, ranging from eclectic watering holes for those in the know, to the busy restaurants and bars of the Skadarlija district and the summer clubs in barges on the Sava and Danube Rivers.
2. Montreal, Canada
Easygoing Montreal is increasingly popular with foreign travelers, who enjoy the joie de vivre of a place with bilingual ambience, good local beer and even skiing at nearby Mt Royal. Montreal's irrepressible student population and atmospheric old quarter give the city a light-hearted, Bohemian air. There are Old World cafes, cool jazz clubs, packed discos and late bars to choose from, plus a popular comedy festival each July.
3. Buenos Aires, Argentina
With its unique mix of European and South American cultures, and a native passion for dance, the Argentine capital provides fertile ground for lively nightlife. There's an emphasis on fashion and a diverse range of entertainment offerings in Buenos Aires' barrios. Relax at a swinging jazz club or dance all night by the waterfront; some clubs and cultural centres offer classes so you can learn to tango or salsa like a local. There's everything from Irish pubs and local folk to house parties.
4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
For those who can afford it, the world capital of conspicuous consumption is unbeatable...

Looks like Huntsville, AL missed the cut again!

Here’s a shocker for everyone...Chia, Colombia. Small town outside of Bogota.
I dont want to insult anyone, but I have heard that Americans are unfamiliar with the term “stag” do, or expedition as it says in the article...
The TOP TEN CITIES are:
1. Belgrade, Serbia — because they’re wi-i-i-ld and krezzy guys.
2. Montreal, Canada — oui, eh?
3. Buenos Aires, Argentina — i get it.
4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates — the Vegas of the muslim world; I get it.
5. Thessaloniki, Greece — they do the bazooka like Zorba?
6. La Paz, Bolivia — it is not possible to have fun in this turd-pot.
7. Cape Town, South Africa — stay up all night, get blasted, get AIDS.
8. Baku, Azerbaijan — you have got to be kidding me.
9. Auckland, New Zealand — fun loving people
10. Tel Aviv, Israel — party like there’s no tomorrow, because that may be the case.
Haven't been but even the thought of going to Bolivia to have fun simply conjures up all the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid images of desolation and corruption.
And there's been no news coming out of there since then to change anybody's mind about the place.
“United Arab...”!? They don’t drink! Guess they let regular folks have a nip. Austin, TX should be on this list! Can’t beat 6th Street.
So, they have plenty of wild and crazy guys there, eh?
GMTA! See my #7 post and my comments on items 1 and 2...
“Looks like Huntsville, AL missed the cut again!”
As did Ivesdale,IL.
Ah-ha! Now I know why my son want’s a trip to Eastern Europe for his graduation gift.
And Huntsville, TX, which is truly the garden spot of Central Texas, and the locale all those fun executions.
Naw. You haven’t lived until you’ve partied hearty in Preston, Idaho. Almost as good a time as in Coffee Springs, Alabama. Then there’s that down and dirty Sodom and Gomorrah of the high plains.... Laramie, Wyoming.
Sounds like great place!
Even though I'm an Aggie, I have to agree with you 6th street..... maybe even drift over to Gruene Hall down the road aways in New Braunfels. Dallas has always been a favorite down around Deep Ellum where I used to see Stevie Ray Vaughn on lower Greenville Avenue... I think I'll skip Bolivia, Dubai and whatthefukistan....
Skadarlija rocks!
I understand that these days wandering around Cape Town is sort of like wandering around the Bronx in the 70’s or Miami in the 80’s (although slightly less safe than either)
