For the second time since Sarah Palin stepped into the national political spotlight, a photo of the former Republican vice-presidential candidate featured on the cover of Newsweek magazine is sparking controversy. Palin herself blasted the "out-of-context" cover as "sexist" on her Facebook page.
...
The reaction to the Newsweek cover has predictably sparked outrage from conservative supporters of Palin and kudos from liberals who oppose her. CBN commentator David Brady called the cover "a new low" for the "biased" magazine, adding that Newsweek has a history of portraying liberal women as "heroes for the next generation," while portraying conservative women like Palin as "nuts and dopey." Meanwhile, documentary photographer Nina Berman hailed the cover as "brilliant" and "shrewd" for using a "propped photo where Palin is an obvious participant ... to show how far out she is willing to travel on the road of self promotion" while "shield[ing] themselves from what would have been the inevitable criticism if they had dolled her up themselves and posed her the same way."
...
Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham told Yahoo! News that the photo choice was simply the "most interesting image available":
"We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do. We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard."

So when Palin poses for a photo for a Runners magazine specifically for an article about running, and then some other magazine plagiarizes that photograph for its cover, that somehow demonstrates that Palin is traveling far out on the road of self promotion. Sorry Nina, but you're an idiot.

So what you're saying, Jon, is that rather than using your own photographers' work for your magazine covers, you prefer to plagiarize somebody else's work that you can "recontextualize" (as bimbo Nina Berman puts it) to convey whatever agenda you are trying to push?
Damn...she looks good !!!
She’s a smokin’ hot woman!! She’s got brains, brawn, and a gun.
She should’ve gotten it in writing from “Runner’s World” that they wouldn’t give the photo to any other publication without her consent. Hate to say it, but she set herself up for this. Palin had to know even back then that the media waws out to get her.
She’s young, healthy, fit, athletic, and goodlooking.
That’s a lot more than we can say about the current White House occupant.
Where are the NAGS? Shouldn’t they be outraged about this???
Viewsweek
Looks like they've thrown away all pretense of objectivity.
I guess the real story is that Newsweek apparently routinely plagiarizes its cover photos.
I don’t have a problem with the picture. She is a good looking woman. I would rather look at that than Shelley with her atrocious outfits and boob belts.
The did that during the Reagan Administration.
Never think you know how low liberals will crawl - you simply can't think that foul. And even more - you can't comprehend how smart they think they are for spewing their garbage.
screw Newsweek
I LOVE Ms. Sarah!
I see the Palin haters are out stinking up FR
Those who keep showing the photo and keeping this
up continue the liberal line that Sarah is a bimbo.
The is why Sarah is fed up with the cover photo.
The liberals don’t want to show Sarah as the person
who was Gov.. VP candidate with more brains and understanding of the issues than Obama and his ilk
could ever hope to have.
Fixed it even a little better than you did.
Sarah should be upset as to the way the Newsweek used Photoshop to make it look as if she had, in violation of US Flag Code, draped that American Flag over a chair.
The MSM is pulling all the stops in trying to “set the agenda” on Sarah Palin. She must be good or else they wouldn’t go after her.
Consider years ago that David Frum always received positive press so it’s pretty obvious that Sarah Palin may just be the female version of Ronald Reagan.
And look back, fellas, the GOP and the MSM absolutely despised Reagan in 1976.
