The Postal Service reported a net loss of $3.8 billion for the 2009 fiscal year, about $1 billion more than the previous year.
The loss comes despite a reduction of 40,000 in career employees and billions in cost-cutting measures.

a cut of 40000 but what did it cost them being they were federal employees to cut them...try c utting down the number of days they deliver...cut fuel savings by hav ing them walk like they used to years ago...they will get exercise that why too possibly cutting down on healthcare costs...there are number of ways....reduce the weekly take home pay like the private sector all over america is being hit with...
Well, I’m cutting way back on my mailings in 2010. They did not pay off. So they will have less business from me next year.

Maybe we can use the money saved with Obamacare to help support the Postal Service..... Heck, Pelosi’s going to save us billions and billions, and trillions of billions.
Wait a minute... did this happen on Obama’s watch? LOL
In as much as the postal service is bloated with more chiefs than indians and has to cater to the lowest common denominator (thanks, unions), then, yes, it is a preview of Obamacare.
The post office has major issues because they are run in the manner of all federal deprtments: Stupidly. But, to trash the employees because their managers are simultaneously stupid and too numerous to keep out of each other’s way misses the mark.
There have been proposals to reduce the number of post offices and the number of days a week for delivery (e.g, eliminating Saturday delivery). These days with delivery services such as UPS or Federal Express, plus the use of e-mail, faxes and other electronic means of communication, post offices and postal delivery are just no longer sustainable at the present rate. Time to make some cuts. But once again, the unions thwart any move to save money.

I got tired of the post office losing my mail so I’m converting more and more to online bill paying.
of course...the unions....
I have a P.O. box and have to use them for some things. It might as well be run by ACORN. What a joke.
Incompetent nincompoops. I just returned from the PO where there were 15 people in line ahead of me. Only one window was in service where there was some old lady getting about 20 money orders of various amounts. Other postal workers were milling about in the background doing little or nothing.
every time they try to make cuts or efficiencies Congress steps in and stops them.
All I have to do to lose any sympathy for the Post Office is to go to one.
Close every Post Office not turning a profit.
Where do I collect my consulting fee?
That’s almost the same amount as the union retiree pension payment which the Congress rammed down the throat of the Postal Service as a payoff to Democrat union cronies.
Check's in the mail
(you were expecting that, weren't you?)
“A preview of Obamacare.
Except that Obamacare’s losses would be measured in tens or hundreds of billions a year. I say “would” rather than “will” as I continue to hope and pray his plan meets the same fate as Hillarycare.
