A body discovered floating in the Chicago River near Merchandise Mart this morning is believed to be that of Chicago Public Schools Board President Michael Scott, police said.
Police have not positively identified the man, but Scott’s Cadillac was found nearby and Scott’s family had reported him missing earlier in the day....

I watch “The Office” and I could not help but notice the name! I know it’s not the same person though.(Obviously). I’m just glad I’ve never come across a corpse,especially one that’s been floating in water! P.U.!!

Perhaps he had access to the DOE student records for the early 1960’s.
Perhaps his testimony regarding admissions to the elite Chicago schools would be very damaging to a whole string of people from several generations, not only the current ones.

I love forensics and I’m fascinated by the human body,but I would not want to be there when the body is retieved from the water,or when the autopsy is performed. How do they get used to it? I mean,the smell alone... Are there any coroners on this site who can explain it to me? I’d love to know.

The olfactory sense is quickly fatigued. That means after a short time a person no longer notices the smell.

As far as choice of disposal for his corpse — floating in the Chicago River definitely sends a message beyond just the fact the guy is dead. The Chicago River is just DISGUSTING (I don’t imagine it’s gotten THAT much better in the last 15 years or so). It’s like a poetic justice statement — slime floating on slime (but only if you ignore the fact that whoever put him in the river probably deserves to be in there more than he did...).

No one more ignorant, but lovable in his way. That’s what’s so endearing about the show.
Why would someone shoot himself on a riverbank? I mean - a person can kill himself just about anywhere in Chicago - and a person committing suicide wants to be found. He doesn’t want to potentially end up in the bottom of a river. Just seems strange.

I am a don’t. First burned corpse I saw , I puked. For a week after that when ever I smelled a hamburger joint, even driving by, I would gag.
Others can detach themselves, and are darned good at it.
I’m often embarrassed for MS,but he usually asks for it. Schrute is a pain too, but they’re both pretty funny.
