Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday that the Obama administration will push for immigration reform by giving the estimated 14 million people who are in the United States illegally fair pathway to earned legal status.
A tough and fair pathway to earned legal status will mandate that illegal immigrants meet a number of requirementsincluding registering, paying a fine, passing a criminal background check, fully paying all taxes and learning English, Napolitano said Friday at a panel discussion at the liberal Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C.
These are substantial requirements that will make sure this population gets right with the law, Napolitano said. It will help fix our broken system.
Napolitano said the Obama administration is working to end the recession and put Americans back to work but said giving legal status to illegal aliens will strengthen our economy.
Requiring illegal immigrants to register to earn legal status, as I discussed earlier, will strengthen our economy as these immigrants become full-paying taxpayers, Napolitano said. As labor leaders have made clear to me, immigration reform will be a boon to American workers.
Think about it: unions will never achieve the best terms for workers when a large part of the workforce is illegal and operates in a shadow economy, Napolitano said. By contrast, the status quo not only hurts American workers, it also stifles potential opportunities to grow our economy.
Napolitano said that she has seen a major shift in the immigration landscape, which the Obama administration hopes will make it easier for Congress to pass new immigration laws.

Just the opposite. Can you name any socialist regimes that promote free/mass immigration?
I’ll camp out in D.C for days. Winter coming or not.
This is how illegals will be covered by zerocare. There won’t be any more illegals. Every blood sucking one of them will be citizens.
Most of them work for cash, so how are they going to tax them?
Pure b.s.
For the last 20 years the border patrol estimates 10,000 cross the border every day. Do the math...
There goes what’s left of California. Idaho, here I come.
Civil unrest WILL break out in this country if this plan is attempted.
This is not a threat.
Its just what is going to happen.
Todays news:
Homeland secretary pushes immigration reform
Nov. 14, 2009
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the White House point person on immigration, said Friday that Congress must provide temporary worker programs and a path to citizenship for 12 million undocumented workers when it takes up reform legislation next year.
Napolitano was optimistic a reform bill could pass in an election year because border security goals have been met and the economic downturn has decreased illegal immigration significantly since a bipartisan bill died in the Senate two years ago.
“I know a major shift when I see one, and what I have seen makes reform far more attainable this time around,” Napolitano said at a speech at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank and advocate for immigration reform.[snip]

That’s right. It’s a numbers game.
First, the country can’t afford to support illegal aliens with our social services. The tax revenue these people will generate does not even come close to covering the expense these people incur. The Heritage Report on this is very clear and accurate. Secondly, it is a total affront to every law abiding immigrant who has gone through our process and is trying to come to the US LEGALLY.
Let’s see - what do we need - educated, skilled immigrants who go through the process legally or uneducated, unskilled people who break our laws and sneak across our borders? That’s not even taking into account the number of people coming over who are drug dealers, have criminal records, and/or are gang members.
and just to add...
I began to think that this was always the plan, especially when 0bama burned his “bi-partisan bridges” with the way he went on the Socialized Medicine - Single Payer Health Care issue.
I figured that there was no way we was going to get voters back for the way he is royally screwing AMerica, then it dawned on me.
He’ll just replace them with a massive influx of NEW VOTERS.
Mexican voters.
Politics is a numbers game.
Third world sh!t hole here we come. Hahahahah!!!

Not that funny. Too true for comfort.
Ya’ll see this crap?
14 million votes before 2010. As much as all this pisses me off, I have to give the Democrats props for getting what they want done. I cannot believe that the Republicans did not just plow through whatever they wanted. They couldn’t even pass Social Security. I hope that when Republicans get the majority again that they learned at least this from the Democrats.
Cost is no object to the people in Washington who want permament power. They are willing to allow 90% of the population be third worlders. There’s a reason white liberals like Cuba, it’s a model. 80% of the Cuban population is non-white, but look whi is n charge. The oligarchies always think they will remain inm power. Didn’t work in South Africa or Zimbabwe did it? It won’t work here. They are turning this country into a third world cesspool where the elites will live lives of leisure and power and the rst of us be dammed. I think we need a hanging party to march down in washington and hang the whole lot of them. They deserve hwta arrogant Marie Antoinnete got...
oops, hwta= what typing too fast
We are going to fight this tooth and nail. No way in hell it will pass in 2010 and it is too late in 2009. the GOP has to keep the Senate stalled for all of damn 2010 on healthcare to stop this amnesty sh*t.
The GOP? lol. They wanted to pass this just a short three or four years ago. If it were up to just the Senate, this would pass 70-30 at the least...
Just say NO to immigration reform.
Why? He said YES to immigration reform. He is the only President in the last thirty years to accept illegals into the United States by law.
She keeps talking about unions like they matter.
Not everybody makes the same mistake twice.
Got Poverty?
Paid for by the taxpayers of America.
