Newt Gingrich, the former Republican House speaker and purveyor of the GOP "Contract With America'' that helped his party win control of the House after President Bill Clinton's election, says GOP chairman Michael Steele has started work on a new framework for 2010 that he is calling "First principles.''
"I've been talking with Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, '' Gingrich said today, speaking with students at C-SPAN's Cable Center Class.
"He is developing a first principles model that I think is a very exciting , positive step in the right direction,'' said Gingrich, who has said that he will decide by February about waging his own campaign for president. "B September , it might be very, very good for the Republicans in the House and Senate to have a common ground on which to campaign, whether they call it a Contract for America or some other device.
"Having a positive set of things that say, 'if you elect us, these are the positive steps we will take,'' Gingrich said, on a program that C-SPAN3 is airing at 5 pm EST. This "may well be the key building block to really become the alternative party, not the opposition party.''...
"If the Democrats stay stuck over on a very left wing program and if they continue to have a job-killing record in Congress, I think by September and October you could suddenly have a very exciting election.''

sorry again ......dept of education.
When they pushed it, I defended it as the Contract with America. By 2006 I capitulated and agreed, it turned out to be the Contract on America.
Newt, go —— yourself. You and your ilk allowed the 1994 victory to turn into a wasted effort. By 2006, RINOs had given us Democrats(2).
Do you think you carry any weight with those of us who watched what happened last time? Contract(2)? Puuuleaaase.
Go away, and take that door mat Steele with you.
Contract with Conservatives? I agree. Nice point.

Gingrich Joins Cantors Effort To Remake GOP
MAn, I can feel the love here for Newt and Steele...
mmm mmmm mmmmmm
Newt and Steele are both RINO’s. After Newt’s last contract, which he did nothing to make it happen and his leftist bent he can go to Heck.
Shut up Newt!
It would very ironic if one of the mantras of this new ‘contract’ is that we must follow our principles.
And our Platform which was put in place last year:
America's Independent Party PlatformPreface
America's Independent Party has as its goal the return of our nation to a set of foundational principles. We call them "America's Principles." The word "principle" comes from a Latin root that means "first things." America's Principles are the "first things" that our country should consider in all of our domestic and foreign policies.
America's Independent Party recognizes that these "first things" are clearly defined in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
However, we also believe that there is room for debate over prudential policy matters within certain parameters of fundamental American political thought and a framework of ordered liberty. We seek a return to an approach to government that facilitates that respectful and necessary debate, but that never compromises the moral premises that made this country great.
Right idea, wrong messenger.
Listening to Gingrich and Steele talk about principles is like having to sit through a lecture by Bill Clinton on chastity and marital fidelity.
NEA, NPR, PBS, DoE... you got the ball rolling and you’re damn right. Instead we actually doubled the DoE budget in Bush’s first four years.
Newt help change Congress to Republican in 1994, two years into Clinton’s term. They rammed welfare reform down this throat and he obliged by taking credit for pushing it through. The Dems to this day credit him for being a fiscal Conservative, even though he had no choice and didn’t lift a finger to help pass it. He did sign it.
Then it was slumber time when Bush came along. They let him spend like a drunken sailor, not a word.
Sounds like the bozo’s are the RNC and Newtie are trying to hijack the Tea Party movement and AIP’s platform.
I do not trust Newt or Steele.
We need new life in our leadership! Gingrich and Steele or stale, boring, flat and running on fumes. We need fresh leaders like Palin and ?????? Can someone add to the list because I’m going blank here!
At least the liberals try to deliver. I know thats a horrible statement but well.............
I am very pragmatic. I also funded and worked very hard for Newt in 1994, we won.
Then, the GOP spent the years acting like the DNC and lost its leadership.
If Newt comes up with a contract, and I can trust the GOP again, I’ll listen but Newt, if your people watch this discussion group - you have an uphill battle.
McClintock...Tom McClintock.
If the first contract was so great, why the need for a second? No sale.
Very little of Newt’s first Contract with America ever actually happened.
It was allot of hoopla that got ignored by the politicians after the election.

Fool me once....
Catchy-NOT.
Michael Steele can't find his rear end with both hands, much less formulate a conservative agenda.
