LEE COUNTY: Federal Bureau of Investigation agents showed up at the house of 61-year-old Dan Ross to find out why he tried to send flowers to the alleged Fort Hood shooter, who Ross calls a 'hero.'
Ross is a former Vietnam War soldier and Christian. He says his faith led him to order roses for Major Nidal Hasan, the man accused of killing 13 soldiers at Fort Hood. Ross calls Hasan a hero.
"The FBI were the ones who actually killed those 13 people, because they were well informed that this guy was against the United States of America," said Ross.
One day after the shooting, Ross placed an order for a $59.95 bouquet of yellow roses to be delivered to the hospital where Hasan remains in critical condition.
"By my doing that, I was immediately labeled a terrorist," said Ross.
"I ask you respect my freedom of speech and freedom of religion" Ross wrote in an email to a Killeen Texas florist. Ross asked the following note be attached to the roses.
"Major Nidal Hasan. Qur'an Chapter 2: Verse 190-3. In God's eye, and those who submit, you are a hero."
We asked Ross if he thinks Hasan is a hero.
"He can be used as a hero for a better good," said Ross.
Ross, an Army veteran, showed us a living room decorated with photos of his son, a Navy officer and his daughter, a member of the Army ROTC at Stetson University. He claims his actions were that of a Christian-- in fact, the Apostle Peter, reborn.
NBC2's Katie LaGrone: I just want to understand why a man would send roses to an alleged killer?
Ross: It's phony bologna. Holy Spirit just told me.
LaGrone: The Holy Spirit's talking to you right now?
Ross: Just a little bit.
His wife of 24 years says Ross poses no threat.
"He thinks it's a part of the Bible," said Eng Ross.
Ross was questioned by the FBI because of the flowers.
"The FBI came by and I thought I was on drugs," said Ross. "That's part of Christianity, love your enemies and do good to them."
The florist, a veteran himself, contacted the FBI after he refused to fulfill Ross' order.
The FBI can neither confirm nor deny they are investigating Ross.
for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
I kind of thought that too. I think he is being ironic. For one, he is pointing out that, according to the Koran, Hasan is a hero. Also, he may think of him as a hero in that he made manifest the cancerous nature of PC. Also, he is pointing out that he is being scrutinized more closely that the murderous Hasan was.
Or, he could be a nut job.
Me too.
Yeah I feel totally safer now that the FBI is using my tax dollars to interview this nut instead of, oh I dunno, STOPPING TERRORISTS YOU PATHETIC FBI.
I feel sorry for this guys kids - one a Navy officer, and the other in ROTC. The nutty dad is going to cause them some grief, I’m sure.
He wants to be a dhimini like that other Vietnam Vet & Islamic sympathizer Judge Carter. They want to bow down to Islam.
They both disgrace Vietnam vets.
In average every day dealings, I think you treat others well an they have the chance to change their opinion about you.
I do not believe God asks us to lay down our lives on the whim of others. I am for certain convinced that he doesn’t want us to sacrifice our wives or our children or our nation like that.
I am not even convinced God wants us to allow others to walk all over our rights.
If you don’t respect yourself, who will? If you allow yourself to be walked on, it destroys respect for you. Then how can you expect folks to respect you enough to listen to you about matters pertaining to Him, something He admonishes us to do.
Show love, but don’t sell yourself out.
That’s my take on it.
In other news, hasan-the-assassin is paralyzed from the waist down.
He might eventually get his virgins, but he won’t be able to do anything with them but look.
Pit-y
There’s a reservation at Happy Acres with his name on it.
Coocoo! Coocoo!
I think he’s being a sarcastic, pissed-off wiseass, mocking those who failed to stop Hasan, as well as slamming Islam as the kind of religion that honors such behavior.
Finally a “religious nut” that the media can convict without trial.
Or both, is my guess.
All religions are equal in the eyes of the Obama administration. Some are more equal than others.
We are living in an Orwellian nightmare.
"The FBI were the ones who actually killed those 13 people, because they were well informed that this guy was against the United States of America," said Ross.
Not sure I agree with his method, but he sounded like he was going for irony.
Indeed, the PC exhibited with Hasan is a scathing indictment of our current security structure.
What if Hasan had sent flowers to someone associated with 09/11? Would we be happy now if we found out he wasn’t checked out at some point for doing it?
I don’t have a problem with checking this guy out. For one thing it puts him on notice.
I do not want to see folks harassed, but this was downright strange. This guy had the where-with-all to contact a local florist down there.
Despite what I said earlier, I think this guy is a lot sharper than he lets on. And him manipulating the situation like this does cause me to scratch my head.
There’s something here that doesn’t make sense to me. He’s got kids in the military for heaven’s sake.
The way he handled this, it almost makes it look like he had a psyop background or something.
I’m with you. The bigger outrage is the FBI investigating someone for sending flowers, not the idiot’s reason for doing it.
Um, he thinks like a typical Democrat.
