Barack Obama rode an economic crisis into the White House in November 2008. Now hell have to ride out the last of that economic storm if hes to keep his own job in three years.
But with unemployment surging and the Presidents poll ratings sinking, theres growing debate about whatif anythingthe President can do about the situation.
cnbc.com President Obama announcing jobs summit on Thursday
There's nothing new here," says crisis management expert and former senate aide Larry L. Smith. We have become a very impatient people. When things dont turn around overnight, we get impatient.
The President took his first public step in confronting the issue as well as restless voters Thursday, saying he would hold a December summit to joblessness. The brief news conference also appeared to signal that the administration had ruled out another stimulus package.
Nevertheless, the President is facing his greatest test to date and how he handles it depends on a complicated mix of economic, political and personal considerations as well as how much faith he is willing to place in historical precedence.
A look at the labor market and election cycles over the past five presidencies shows timing is indeed everything, and in this case time appears to be on the president's sidewith or without any new measures to stimulate job growtheven if the economy costs Democratic seats in Congress in the next Novembers midterm election.

LOL, so CNN and the rest of the media Obama Koolaid drinkers after touting the stimulus are now saying “Well it never really had much of a chance to create jobs anyway. Don’t blame Obama if joblessness is up! He really doesn’t have much control over that anyway.” They just LOVE to make excuses for The One. Cut corporate and investment taxes and watch job creation begin.
Here is what he should do.
Kill Cap and Tax, Health Care Destruction etc.
Make permanent the Bush Tax cuts.
Reform the tax code in the mode of Kennedy and Reagan.
Cutting Taxes Works!
I thought it was pretty funny I love going to those sites and seeing the spin.
Crossing all of those options out, since they would slow the destruction of the country, it’s true, he has very few options.
Cut all the spending that is crowding out private investment.
No hope of earning a paycheck tends to make folks impatient you blathering boobs.
Hey CNN....maybe you could released this article back when Barry and company were talking their imminent Doomsday, implosion of America, and 8% v. 9”% unemployment scenarios to get their budget and Stimulus passed. IDIOTS! This garbage is nothing but protectionism of your beloved Barry being it is a day late and a dollar short!
Funny how that works but all the newspapers and tv are for thee most part and really all the mainstream economists are liberals
0bummer’s whole agenda is stiffling job creation:
1) Nationalize Healthcare
2) Nationalize Banks
3) Nationalize Autos
4) Nationalize Home Loans (FHA)
5) Force Unionization
6) Start Trade Wars
7) Cap and Tax
8) Tax Increases
9) Print Money excessively
Until 0bummer is politically defeated so that none of these things can occur (or making it likely they will be rolled back)...
No sane business person will hire.
HORSE HOCKEY!
Pres--ent jOker campaigned (and still does today) that HE AND ONLY HE was going to create peace, jobs, and bliss for all with the wave of his magical tongue. A majority of voters, stupid that they are, hopped on the Magic Unicorn destined for Rainbow Land.
Don't blame the people for being impatient. Stupidly-hip yes, but Bammy takes half the blame for promising what we can't or won't deliver.
This is such BS. The single greatest barrier to job creation is the Federal government. They cannot create jobs, but they sure can prevent or obstruct job creation.
The job creation engine of America is small business, let's start there. I am not an economist nor am I a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisor's, but here is a short list:
1. Stop immediately spending more $$ than we have. We spent $300B while taking in $135B in October.
2. Stop this insane ObamaCare initiative.
3. Provide a reduction in payroll taxes effective retroactively to January 1.
4. Reduce capital gains tax by 50%
5. Make the Bush tax cuts permanent.
6. Fire Tim G as we should not have a tax cheat as the head of the IRS
Longer term:
1. Make drilling for oil/gas and developing our internal nature resources a priority. Focus on knocking down barriers to this effort (like frivolous environment regulations and lawsuits).
2. Develop free-market initiatives for the medical system that increase choice.
3. Simplify the regulatory environment for businesses.
4. Get to a balanced budget within 2 years.
But of course none of these are glamorous, they take hard work and time. It means getting down in the trenches and using the Presidency to get things done. It does not lend itself to flowery speeches or TV interviews/appearances.
Plus, and most importantly, these ideas reduce the power of government. And that is the reason none will be considered.
sschu
And add to that...
- Open up drilling and exploration offshore and on Federal lands,
- Introduce environmental regulations that encourage the development of shale oil,
- Introduce a program for the immediate expansion of nuclear plants nationwide, and
- Kill the minimum wage.
Oh, like Nazi Pelousy?
He WANTS it. It helps him get more people dependent on the dole. Just like FDR who wanted high unemployment for as long as the public would take it.
When Bush is President - Economy is President’s fault.
When Obama is Present - Economy is NOT President’s fault.
Got it!
Hah!
