A N. Korean Diplomat Found Dead in Shenyang (Disappeared since Oct.)

Choi Yushik in Beijing

Authorities looking into various possibilities

A consul at N. Korean Consulate in Shenyang, China, was recently found dead in the city, raising tension among the diplomatic circles in China.

A source on N. Korea in Beijing said on Nov. 12, "A consul in charge of economic affairs at N. Korean Consulate in Shenyang was found dead on Oct. 30. Chinese authorities are investigating."

The consul went missing in early October, which prompted rumors. One version said he may have escaped to a foreign country, according to local people. N. Korea maintained its consulates in Shenyang and Hong Kong. There are around 10 consuls at their consulate in Shenyang.

The local Chinese authorities suspect a murder, based on external wounds found on his body. They are looking into various possibilities, ranging from a simple murder to planned hit by some organization. The sources in Beijing said, "So far, much is known about the circumstance of his murder. Since a diplomat was murdered, Chinese authorities are taking it seriously."

Probably a hit by someone. N. Korean diplomatic personnels like him are usually into illegal activities to earn hard currencies for the N. Korea state: drug running, supplying counterfeit currencies among others.

Hence, they have to deal with organized criminal elements in China. If something goes wrong during one of these dealings, he can be killed by either Chinese mobs or N. Korean agents for his screwups. Sometimes, people like him siphoned proceeds from the deals, and get caught by N. Korean authorities.

On the other hand, he could have simply called it quits and was trying to bail out of N. Korea. N. Koreans stationed overseas have unlimited access to outside information. They tend to realize the futility of sticking with Kim Jong-il regime and seriously worry about N. Korea's future as well as his own. So he may be about to defect but N. Korean agents got him first. Actually, there had been indeed a rumor that a N. Korean diplomat stationed in Shenyang disappeared and was trying to defect.

SHENYANG!??

P.S. By the way, we get Obongo this afternoon.

Then you can have him.

I think if DPRK makes a move against the South on the NLL or the DMZ, they will have to do it today or tomorrow, to see if they can rattle his cage and give him the squirts, try to get some concessions out of The Master Appeaser.

Heaven knows they would NEVER try something like that when Reagan or Bush 1 (or 2 for that matter, or even probably Clinton) were in the region. With this current individual in there seen as an immense empty suit, I wouldnt doubt anything the Norks might try to pull today or over the weekend.

Yes, every anti-American thug will try to squeeze something out of him and he just dithers with petty liberal causes. The only foreign policy expertise he has is to apologize to enemies of America for its sins. He is so good at being a East Coast Liberal.

There is no chance Obama will be intimidated by Kim. They share the same philosophy: coorcive redistribution of wealth as a means to gain and hold power. They are both Marxists, and Obama knows "the game".
