A senior government official tells ABC News that investigators have found that alleged Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan had "more unexplained connections to people being tracked by the FBI" than just radical cleric Anwar al Awlaki. The official declined to name the individuals but Congressional sources said their names and countries of origin were likely to emerge soon.
Questions already surround Major Hasan's contact with Awlaki, a radical cleric based in Yemen whom authorities consider a recruiter for al Qaeda. U.S. officials now confirm Hasan sent as many as 20 e-mails to Awlaki. Authorities intercepted the e-mails but later deemed them innocent or protected by the first amendment.
The FBI said it turned over the information to the Army, but Defense Department officials today denied that. One military investigator on a joint terror task force with the FBI was shown the e-mails, but they were never forwarded in a formal way to more senior officials at the Pentagon, and the Army did not learn of the contacts until after the shootings.

When one of their friends die and they feel themselves in dangers.
Ping me when Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright show up in his contacts list.
ABC better watch their back is what I was thinkin’.
CBS surprised me too .... on another administration issue. I am not bold enough to think that the media has turned the corner.
Theres more to this whole story than meets the eye. This could be very revealing as people dig deeper. Something is not quite right.
What a surprise!! (sarcasm)
I think the only way they ever turn the corner totally is if they discover Hussein is the King Mole. Then, its 50-50.
Those "authorities" need to be dragged out into the light. Innocent chats with an Al Qaeda recruiter? And since when does the First Amendment protect active-duty US military personnel from discipline for unauthorized correspondence with foreign persons who are officially classifed by our government as terrorists? Soldiers aren't even allowed to say "I'm gay" and stay in the military, but the First Amendment protects their right to correspond with recruiters for foreign terrorist organizations? Gimme a break!
Yeah, they are really sick of FOX’s ratings continue to climb.
nice but quiet, always the ones to watch, they usually end up on the news as looney serial killers.
I have felt something was not right since it took them over 6 hours to find out that Hasan was still alive ... this despite saying that they were having frequent pressers to dispel wrong information.
It’s been downhill since.
Indeed. It certainly appears that we’ve either got one or more moles among the “authorities” who are supposed to be policing this sort of thing, or we’ve got people so incompetent they might as well be moles.
If that is the case, we’ll never hear about it; Eric Holder will do everything he has to do to protect The One.
Good catch!
It’ll go nowhere, sadly.
I just get the feeling that certain parties are witholding information. There seems to be a huge attempt at hiding something extremely embarrassing or politically explosive.
