W. hits town to talk turnarounds (Pres. Bush-Chicago)

Former president George W. Bush hits town Nov. 19 for a private speaking engagement sponsored by the Turnaround Management Association.

Ironic, given all the criticism he took during his presidency for not turning things around on certain issues -- not that the current president has, either.

Turnaround Management members are consultants who help "troubled companies in the recovery process." (Crain's Chicago Business is also a sponsor of the event.)

The 43rd president is stepping in at the last minute for former GE CEO Jack Welch, who recently was hospitalized with a staph infection.

Chicago organizers are thrilled with the turn of events. Usually, when a speaker drops out, the program suffers, said one participant.

***In this case, reservations jumped from 400 to 600 when it was announced Mr. Bush would be at the podium. The event is closed to the public -- and the media.

For W., it's the first of a number of speaking engagements since he left the White House. The former commander in chief is due to release a book next year.

Agreed.
He is a good man. His mama raised him right.
May no one ever have to face the circumstances he faced, not even Obama.

There would have been more than 600 if they could fit, I betcha.

Every speaking engagement President Bush has sells out in the blink of an eye.

Thanks for the ping, ding, STARWISE. You lifted my spirits. :)

For years this good man stood tall as his critics, many of whom were in the MSM, mocked, ridiculed and cursed his every thought, word, deed. Now, he doesn't have to subject himself to daily abuse. Thats why I find it a little sweet that those people are not invited to these private speaking engagements. God Bless you, Mr President, you certainly deserve a break from all of those jerks and that level of hostility.

Now that he’s out of the public office, he may be able to do more good than when he was in office. He can use his energy in a more positive manner rather than fighting the liberals.

We may be able to find out what he says and the reaction of the audience from the Canada Free Press. Certainly won’t get an accurate account from the American press.

Thanks for the ping, STARWISE! Sounds like a great event.

Before I read your comment, ohioWfan, I was going to make a similar one about the number of guests. I bet the sponsors of the event are wishing they had booked a bigger auditorium! :)

I love it that he draws an SRO crowd wherever he goes! God bless President Bush!
