A top House Democrat said Monday she's "confident" that a conference committee will strip language in the House health bill on taxpayer funding for abortion.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the Democrats' chief deputy whip in the House, said that she and other pro-choice lawmakers would work to strip the amendment included in the House health bill that bars federal funding from going to subsidize abortions.
"I am confident that when it comes back from the conference committee that that language won't be there," Wasserman Schultz said during an appearance on MSNBC. "And I think we're all going to be working very hard, particularly the pro-choice members, to make sure that's the case."
The amendment, offered by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), won the support of Republicans and some centrist Democrats in the House.

There's a sucker born every minute.Too bad there are several hours worth of them in the House.

Every single Democrat in the House needs to be booted out of office in 2010.Poor Ahn Cao. He voted for this turkey for nothing and he might lose his seat in addition. Yoke's on him.

So, if it gets stripped out, what makes her think those pro-life Democrats will vote for it then when they wouldnt vote for it unless it was in there last Saturday? Can anybody explain this to me?
They wanted cover for when they return home. End of story. They knew it would be stripped in conference, and were probably TOLD that on Saturday night by Piglosi and he kneecap busters.
There ain't nobody listening to the American people - Congress takes it orders from the man-child in the WH. Article I and Article II separations have been breached.

Can anybody explain this to me?They think the longer they go without a 'NO' vote on it, the better their chances.
A 'NO' now kills it. They just want to keep it on the respirator as long as possible.

“So the Blue Dogs and Joseph Cao, who got their ‘assurances’ with the Stupak Amendment, will get sold down the river when the bill gets to Reconciliation.”
And if that happens the reconciliation report won't pass the House. The Dems lost 39 votes with the Stupak amendment in place, pulling out all the stops and cashing in all the chips. Three more defections and their bill goes down. Even if overwhelming majority of the pro-life Dems cave in the end, they can't pass a reconciliation report that doesn't include the Stupak language.
They probably also can't pass a reconciliation report that does include that language. 41 Dems have signed a letter saying that Stupak is a deal breaker for them. If just three of them switch sides to oppose the final version out of “pro-choice” principle, the bill would die.
Pelosi papered over the abortion divide in her caucus long enough to get a vote on Obamacare through the House. But the divide hasn't gone away and the day of reckoning is just postponed. There is no health care bill that has majority support in the House and so, in the end, no final bill can pass.
Pelosi and Hoyer (probably the latter because he has 40 IQ points on Nancy)decided their best bet was to get some version of Obamacare out of the House and let it die in the Senate. Then poor Harry can take the blame.
What this story tells us is that the Dems are just spinning their wheels. They're no closer to a heath care bill now then they were before Saturday's vote.

The one benefit of Stupak was that it was a bit like William Wilberforce's tactic that finally ended the slave trade. Wilberforce and his allies took away the broad protection that allowed
all trade along the triangle trade route to be protected from war-time boarding. They did this by making it illegal for a ship to change its colors after leaving a given port. Immediately, the vast majority of the slave trade was halted. The slave-trade monies that went to buy off the supporters in Parliament dried up, so support in Parliament dwindled very quickly.
Similarly, if the government takes over the health-insurance business, and no government money is allowed to go to pay for abortions, then almost immediately the vast majority of abortion in this country would cease. This would dry up the funding to the Democratic Party from groups like Planned Parenthood. There would be no economic incentive for Democratic politicians to support abortion. Within a few decades (once the effect reverberated up to composition of Supreme Court nominees), abortion on demand would cease. That was the only positive of this bill. If Stupak is stripped, it will lose a lot of support.

If it said, “life of the mother”, I’d have supported it. As it is, it is possible to do an end-around.
To: Thane_Banquo
Stupak is a red herring. It is there to provide cover for the Dems in conservative districts, but gov’t subsidized abortions will find another funding source or be placed in the bill by some judge.

I am always surprised how many people seem to have no fear of God at all. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is just recovering from some type of cancer, I do not understand people that do not turn to the Lord when they are facing life and death issues? We should turn to the Lord before things go bad, but at least when we are face to face with death/cancer, you would think people would be sober about things?
But not Debbie Wasserman Schultz, No she spits right in the Lords face, shortly after winning a successful battle against cancer.
God Bless Debbie and all like her.
