Police Heroine Who Brought Down Fort Hood Gunman Lost Half Her Blood After Being Shot
Daily Mail ^ | 11/08/09 | David Gardner and Liz Hazelton

The lightly-built police heroine who is credited with halting the Fort Hood massacre almost died at the scene after losing half the blood in her body.

Mother of one Sergeant Kimberley Munley confronted gunman Nidal Malik Hasan and, despite being wounded in both legs, brought him down with four shots.

One of the shots cut an artery in her leg, leaving blood pumping out but she still managed to keep firing before collapsing.

Heroine: Kim Munley, a civilian police officer, is the woman who brought Hasan down by shooting him four times before he could slaughter more people.

Medic Francisco Delaserna applied a tourniquet to Sgt Munley as she drifted in and out of consciousness because of blood loss.

'I cut her trousers oopen, tied a tourniquet around her thigh and stopped the bleeding. But she had already lost a lot of blood,' he said.

Actually, Todd stopped Hasan...
Apparently, the jury's still out on that one, Bunny -- I think.

MORE detials are still emerging, as here -- from www.isria.com:

...Hoping to bring an end to the chaos inside the post deployment readiness center, Sgt. Kimberly Munley, an officer with Fort Hood’s Department of Emergency Services, and Senior Sgt. Mark Todd, K-9 Division, DES, moved in to the fight. According to Todd, as soon as officers pulled up to the scene, people were pointing them in the direction of the shooter.

Hasan reportedly started firing on Todd and Munley, who took cover behind a vehicle. Munley left her cover to pursue the shooter and Todd followed around the other side of the building, where the major was hiding. When Todd looked around the corner of the building, he saw Munley on the ground. She had been shot.

Hasan was hiding behind a light post and firing at people who were fleeing the scene. Todd recalls firing five shots at Hasan. The major fell. Todd then confiscated Hasan’s weapons and cuffed him. The entire exchange between Todd and the gunman lasted less than 45 seconds.

"We did just like we were trained to do…shouting commands and working as a team," Todd said. "We had no time to feel anything, just to react..."

I'lll wait for the FINAL report, before deciding exactly whose rounds actually dropped him.

Well I will break the silence then.

Her bravery and reaction upon waking up from her almost life taking wounds has changed my mind about women serving in battle.

And would like to add a few more cents...

The fanatic terrorist had his Allah but I see her taking him down as Christs Divine intervention and she took the call.

I think her name and duty needs to be posted often here and in the News media with out stepping on her privacy.

“FINAL report” as in Warren Commission report? 911 Commission report? I wish it were so that we finally get to the bottom of things, but we seldom ever do in this fiendish world of lies and CYA. Both cops took shots at the Jidahi. I don’t know how he managed to land so many accurate rounds on the female while they were both shooting at him. He must have been damned good at what he was doing. Probably trained in an Al Qaida “camp”.

Meanwhile while we are waiting for the final report, the DBM and Obama have already concluded this was not a terrorist act and the guy was a victim of America’s war of aggression on all of Islam.

She'd probably enjoy receiving a "get well" card with that thought on it. I'm sure anything mailed to her c/o Ft. Hood would reach her.

And thanks for piping up!

I believe that many people agree with you, and although I don’t know her, obviously, I believe that Sgt. Munley would also agree with you.

Remember that little blond girl from W VA...
That would be Jessica Lynch.

I appreciate your skepticism, SA...

...but the BETTER analogy in this case may be:
Jeanne Assam, Hero for Our Time...
...who dropped ANOTHER would-be mass murderer, two years ago in Colorado Springs.

Perhaps all the family/loved ones of the victims required time to grieve alone before consenting to the media to release the identity of loved ones.

Three days is not a long time IMO. That is 72hrs.
What difference would it make anyway 1 day or 4 for the general public to know who the murder victims all were.

The victims at Ft. Hood and their families were mentioned in prayer during our worship services this morning.

Well, Sgt. Munley is a firearms instructor, so it is possible that she took him out; however, until all the investigations into the entire incident lay out all the facts, we won’t know how many of Munley’s and/or Todd’s bullets actually struck Dr. Hasan.

From what I had read earlier was that she may not have even been on official duty, that she was on her way to the car mechanic when she heard the call on the radio.

The argument about women fighting in the front line has never been about whether women can be as brave or shoot as well as their male counterparts (that has been known for a long time), its been about things such as unit cohesiveness (would other men be unduly protective towards female soldiers), the ability to carry a full-grown man and carry him back to safety if he is wounded, the specific hygienic needs of females which could suffer in a situation were logistics are poor, physical stamina etc.....

The average woman usually has around a gallon of blood. Average guy, being a little bigger, about a gallon and a half. Good thing they got a tourniquet on.

Probably because Sgt. Munley was wounded while taking down the shooter and her fellow police officer Todd was not.
