Kurt Schrader - Oregon House - Happy to have Voted for Pelosicare

Dear Friends,

Tonight I cast a historic vote to overhaul America’s failing healthcare system to improve the healthcare of all Americans. This bill prohibits exclusions based on preexisting conditions and ensures American families will no longer be one illness or job loss away from bankruptcy. It also protects America’s senior citizens by fixing the donut hole sooner and allowing more drug price-negotiation to ensure seniors are getting the best prices for their medications. For the first time in our nation’s history, we will say that every American deserves access to affordable quality healthcare.

I also believe that controlling escalating healthcare costs is essential to getting our nation’s fiscal picture under control. As a small business owner, and father of five, who has struggled to deal with rapidly increasing healthcare expenses, I am extremely sensitive to the cost of healthcare in this nation.

Over the past several months I have held more than 50 meetings with constituents, business and community leaders and healthcare professionals throughout my district. As a result of this input, H.R. 3962 is much improved over the original House bill that was introduced over the summer. It makes healthcare coverage more affordable to individuals and businesses as well as constraining costs much more than the original legislation.

I have received assurance from House leadership and the Administration that additional cost containment measures will occur in the final conference agreement. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure the plan is more sustainable over the long-term. The status quo is not an option. I’m excited to have played a role today in moving this process forward and continuing to craft a plan that accomplishes our two main priorities: increasing the quality and accessibility of healthcare and reducing costs for Oregon families, small businesses and our nation as a whole.

As always feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this bill or any other issues before the United States Congress. It's a pleasure you represent you in Washington D.C.

This whole thing baffles me. I don’t know how Pelosi is getting congressmen to vote for this monstrosity. Somebody must be blackmailing some of these people to get their votes...seriously.

"This guy is lucky he’s not near me right now. I’d shove that health care bill right up his ass."

He might enjoy it. In fact he probably would.

Me neither, I have a high deductable policy right now that's quite affordable and less than half those numbers. I'm hoping if this monstrosity passes that my insurance company will leave the terms unchanged and I won't have to buy a "qualified plan."

Mark my words, if this thing passes the senate, the democrats will pay a heavy price in 2010 and 2012. Then the GOP will repeal it in 2013.

I think you’re right about that. There are some weird nasty “negotiations” going on in Washington. I’m not sure who’s behind it all but I have some ideas, and it’s not who you might think at first.

I'm wondering what will happen with Insurance companies. If they force them to take all preexisting conditions, its not really insurance any more.

I can picture many Insurance companies ending their business, or raising rates astronomically. We are looking at radical change. Possibly a collapse of the system.

This bill prohibits exclusions based on preexisting conditions

They will be buying coverage in the back of the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

You are whistling past the graveyard if you think that. Whoever voted for this is lower than snake shit in a waggon wheel rut.

These insurance companies are going to want to cut and run. They don’t want to be under the hammer of government anymore than we do.

I know the odds are probably against it, but insurance companies could make much more money off current policies than “qualified plans”, so they may be inclined to leave the terms unchanged for as long as they can. It depends how this POS bill is written: the premiums have to go up with inflation, and if that is considered a change in terms than I’m out of luck. We got to hit the senate hard to defeat this POS.

If you come upon your congressman's office burning one day with socialist still inside, what do you do as soon as the fire begins to subside enough fo you to apprach the door? :

A. Add green apple wood because its smoke goes well with pork

B. Add wet hickory chips because you like St. Louis style ribs

C. Add dry oak because it burns hotter than hell.

If it gets past the senate that won't matter. They will tack anything to it they want. Catch 22.

According to who? This guy is a slimey low life. Nancy most likely has some dirt on him. Not hard to dig up in DC if you are an insider. What I find interesting is how "men" at foggy bottom drop their trowsers for Nancy and say thank you sir(it) may I please have another.
