WASHINGTON — A 5.7-millimeter pistol used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased legally by suspect Nidal Hasan at a Texas gun shop, law enforcement officials said Friday.
Army Col. John Rossi, deputy commander at Fort Hood, confirmed at a news conference late Friday in Texas that the two weapons carried by Hasan were not military arms, but "privately owned weapons ... purchased locally."
He said more than 100 rounds were fired during the attack.
Records indicate Hasan bought the FN 5.7 at store called "Guns Galore" in Killeen, Texas, in recent months and that gun was used in the attack that left 13 people dead, one of the officials said. The pistol has been dubbed a "cop killer" by those who have tried to stop its use.
The law enforcement officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.

Back in your day, there wasn’t anything that would feed off a detachable box magazine.
So, how did Teddy Roosevelt look while charging up that hill?
{evil grin}
Well gee, isn’t that special, our troops can die over there, and here now, but can’t defend themselves here, hell the way its going now they can’t defend themselves over there anymore.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON ANYMORE!!
Well, so do I and so do a lot of people who shoot a lot.
Did my last post make any sense? sorry, on drugs,(the legal type) can’t sleep, and itchin’ like crazy!!
If this was WWII, Korea or ‘Nam, Maj. Hasan would have been incapacitated by some NCO or officer with his .45 cal M1911 on the double.
“Welcome to the jungle/it gets worse here every day....”
LOL! Love it!
I’ve had law enforcement training and I’ve been thinking the very same thing! I know whne I had to do timed shooting reloading etc., I was very quick, dropped the magazines, kept shooting as my firearms instructor commanded. It was interesting in that I was the only person who absolutely followed what I was told.
However, as a medic he would not have that specialized ammo available to him through his unit arms room.
>>and if I pull your left leg, does it play Jingle Bells?<<
No, but Chrissy Matthews gets a tingle.
And, since he was shot outside, arguments of friendly fire need to die. Furthermore, reports from witnesses state he was the lone shooter and was very methodical about it, sometimes using a second round to ensure he actually killed someone. That was what he was doing when our heroine ended his killing spree.
And a last observation from news reports and experience, he chose a location with people lined up and grouped. That made his desire to maximize his body count simple. Everyone was lined up like ducks in a shooting gallery.
Hey has anyone figured out why a United States hating, Islamic fundamentalist would possibly shoot a bunch of fellow soldiers? It’s a mystery apparently.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON ANYMORE!!
That’s what I been wonderin. The guy squeezes off forty rounds AT AN ARMY BASE before anybody pays attention?
Heck, if I hear a pop coming from my neighbors direction, no biggie.
But if I hear more than one, and hear the crack that goes with it, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
“They said the lone gunman was dead then hours later he wasnt. Something very fishy.”
Lynch mobs don’t go after dead guys. They probably wanted to get him someplace safe.
In the 80’s in the 82nd that was a no. We weren’t trusted by our ‘command’. In Group, that was a no, but we were expected to disobey it and not get caught by anyone outside of Group. That was trust, up and down the line.
Today? PC, lawyer infested, layered over the usual officer/managerial beaurocrat culture.
Okay, what are we talking about here?
"Standard NATO round"? This is a NATO round? I thought 9mm Parabellum FMJ was the "standard NATO round" for a sidearm.
Newsies on TV visiting a gun shop showed a round -- saying that that was what Hasan had used -- which had a blue ballistic tip. Didn't look like military ball ammo at all. Something is off here.
Enlighten me please.
Shot placement rules the day.
Most any firearm can be deadly in well-trained hands.
Only in America.
Let's KEEP IT THAT WAY (Just Say NO To SOCIALISM).
