When Wrightsville Beach police detective Shaun Appler pulled over a suspected drunk driver in 2000, he couldnt have foreseen the dangerous situation that was about to ensue.
Thankfully Applers partner, Kimberly Munley, was there to save his life.
While Appler was talking to the driver of the vehicle, a third man approached the detective and interjected himself into the discussion. Appler said he asked the third man to leave, when he didnt, the detective tried to arrest him.
A struggle ensued, and the two men eventually rolled down a hill. When they came to a stop, the man was straddling Appler, reaching for the handgun holstered on the detectives belt.
Suddenly, Munley appeared, leaped onto the mans back, yanked him off of Appler and forced him into handcuffs.
At that point, Appler said, he heard the theme to Mighty Mouse playing over in his head: Here I come to save the day.
From that time forward, Appler called Munley: Mighty Mouse.
Now Munley, a police officer in Fort Hood, Texas, has involved herself in an incident that is shaking the nations core, when an Army psychiatrist about to be deployed overseas conducted a mass shooting in which more than a dozen people were killed and several more were severally wounded.
If it wasnt for Munley, who arrived within minutes of reports of gunfire with her partner, more people would likely have died, authorities said.
Munley was herself wounded by a bullet before she shot Maj. Nida Malik Hasan, 39, ending his rampage through a medical processing center in this army outpost on Thursday, Nov. 5, according to news reports.

Police used to carry a .32 or .38 revolver
They did not stop the target
Some states and cities even banned the S&W .357 Magnum for LEOs - It “killed”
I have also seen a young cop carry a nice SIG .40 - and a .357 Mag as a backup
I asked him (after he insisted I examine his SIG) why he chose to carry two (2) calibers of handguns - requiring two (2) calibers of cartridges
When you strap on your iron you are not going to a gun show or shoot a B western flick
You need practical, dependable large caliber stoppers
And lots of regular practice
Otherwise just go sell shoes in the mall
There are many PDs that allow .45’s
They are heavier and bulkier - but there are some now made with composites &/or titanium
Law Enforcement or the military is not the career for a showboat or someone wanting to be a hero
Or to hide in a Shrink’s starched and pressed uniform or whites stateside
I used semi-autos and full-autos in the military
I prefer revolvers for my own use - but a scoped semi-auto carbine for hunting or trespassers/thieves
At the rate the US is going - they may soon get up close and personal lessons about the real reason for the 2nd Ammendment
That includes any lefties/thugs in the SS or elsewhere
I jump to conclusions!
So it sounds like Police have a variety of choices in guns to carry. Guess I assumed that they all carried certain ones that are issued to them.
I never asked my brother about ‘gun’ things. I read enough mysteries to know they carry ‘backup’ guns too.
.
The dinky handgun has gone for LEO’s now
The biggest problem is cities where the range time and ammo budget is restricted
Like driving - carrying and using a firearm requires dedication and practice
Any LEO that imagines they may go through a career with using a firearm should select another path in life
The same for the over-eager hotdogs too
I remember in the military I did not want any urban city types anywhere around me
Only those that learned to hunt in mixed environments and situations at a very young age

That does eliminate a very large portion of the population though.
as if she would lower her standards
LOL!
Well, he’s in a coma on a ventilator. I’d say Kimberley did pretty well. OTOH, they’ll say he can’t testify at his trial. I want a trial as speedy as Tim McVeigh’s with as speedy and permanent an outcome.
[I want a trial as speedy as Tim McVeighs with as speedy and permanent an outcome.]
You want the impossible! How I wish he could be tried by the state of Texas, rather than the Military.
She hit him 4 times, I’d say she did really well.
A certain type of gun?
.
Dr. Death hit her in both legs and her wrists
She hit him 4 times and he is in a coma
Gun Control means hitting your target
To bad she was not using a Colt .45
He would be sleeping with the pigs now
Is it true they often use modified hog blood for transfusions?
I wonder if they had to use a pig`s heart valve to patch him up.....
Note they transported him to another undisclse location
[A certain type of gun?]
Yes, a certain ‘kind’ of gun. I’m a woman and not a gun expert nor familiar with Police equipment.
[Dr. Death hit her in both legs and her wrists]
?? This is confusing. Guess I’m tired.
They’ve replaced copy editors with Microsoft grammar checkers to save money.
.
He was a lousy shot
No main upper body shots
It appears he shot everywhere and used a number of pre-loaded magazines
40 hits - one officer estimates a total of 100 rounds fired
I would say he attempted to keep a distance from the victims
One officer said they were sitting in cubicles - he jumped up on a table to shoot downwards at their head levels
With all the rapid posting I’ve done today, I haven’t really got to read through threads. I can’t recall where she was injured, that’s why your comment confused me, lol.
Mighty Mouse saved the day!
.
She ran to the sound of the guns
Major Obamavoter bought the s-a locally -
I venture he thought his Transition Team slot would guarantee he could avoid posting abroad to any zone
Obama promised - and lied as usual
Yes, I read in one of the first stories that he was mad at Obama for breaking his promises.
Lol, things just keep getting worse and worse for Obame. But they keep getting worse for us too. Something’s gotta give.
.
The Muzzies have turned on their Stealth Messiah!
You’d be surprised ;)
