NBC CHICAGO: Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting

Getty Images President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships.

After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.

But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?

Well, stating the obvious about Obama was previously a no-no.

I keep thinking about that line that the charismatic alien leader gave to the reporter in ABC’s “V”.....’just make sure not to ask any questions that would paint us in a negative light’.

I felt less awful about the shout out when I saw Medal of Honor- then looked at your post, and sure enough, Obama gave this guy the Medal of Freedom in August.

Have you noticed today the unusal amout of stories about how conservs are “crazy” or need to get more media acceptable “cull the nuts”. I guess the elitists have figured out the natives are organizing and they know their days as mouthpiece for the elitist are numbered.

This IDIOT in the WH does not even know that when military personnel are presented with a medal be it the MOH or the Navy Cross ( or similar Cross) or a Silver Star, Bronze Star etc the did not WIN IT..it was not a contest! The medal is an award and the military person receiving it is called a RECIPIENT!

Wow, that was amazing. Yet another "fail" for Zero. At least Clinton could act. Zero can't even muster counterfeit feelings for those in the military who had died. His comments at the end were manifestly wooden and uninspired.

I'm glad this was broadcast live. Let's hope that the rest of the electorate starts to see what has been clear to us since the beginning: this guy hates our country, he despises its institutions, and simply does not mean well by us.

Color me "tin-foil"--but I have been praying--seriously--that Obama leave office alive and well, BECAUSE I have this awful feeling that behind Obama is a "controller", who REALLY wants to destroy this country, and knows that if Obama were assassinated the blame would be placed on the "hate-mongers of the right"--and any media personalities (like Rush and Beck) who could be painted with that wide brush. That would be a very effective way to marginalize "conservatives", and give the Left a "moral imperative" to attack them mercilessly. And not just with words.

I know--this sounds awfully pessimistic. But I ALWAYS hope for the best--but prepare for the worst--and then PRAY (LIKE HECK) against it!

Very good point. It is telling though, because the concept of receiving an award is an acknowledgment of accomplishment. Pres Obama has no real accomplishments, other than winning the highest popularity contest in the USA.

Why can no one get this right?

Not to detract from his accomplishments, but he is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Bronze Star Medal, the Congressional Gold Medal and the Légion d’honneur. NOT the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Any “real news organization” would know the difference.
