SAN JOSE -- Three teenagers and a Milpitas man have been arrested in the Halloween shooting and stabbing of two trick-or-treaters in San Jose whom they mistook for rival gang members, police said.
The victims, boys ages 12 and 13, were attacked while trick-or-treating. The younger boy was shot in the head and remains in critical condition. The older boy was stabbed and has been released from a hospital.

Stupid gang members and even more stupid parents of the kids who were allowed to go out dressed like that.
Who is out trick or treating at 10pm? Nevertheless, prayers for the boy that was shot.
We don't know how they were dressed.
No hate crime legislation I’ve ever seen has made ANY reference to discrimination against persons for wearing “the wrong gang colors”.
It should. HATE is the motivator. Can’t wear “BLUE” on my street. Can’t wear “RED” on my street.
Can’t have thugs dictating “ownership” and “terrorial rights” over a street.
But it’s easier to write some revenue tickets than get the gangs off the street.
They were dressed wrong enough to be mistaken for gang bangers.
You have no idea, zero, of how the children were dressed that were the victims of this deadly assault.
We know they were dressed in such a way that the title of this artucle is called “Trick or treaters mistaken for gang bangers”... Just look up.
My horrible parents never allowed me to go tricking at halloween. Their motto: we do not want you to beg for candy. Do something useful first and then negotiate to be paid in candy.
why are 12-13 year olds still allowed to trick or treat?
Two children get attacked and grievously wounded and you blame the parents?
Seriously?
They did nothing wrong. Their children did nothing wrong. The children were brutally attacked for walking down a street.
Unless people - people like you - stop reflexively blaming the victims of crime, America is doomed.
I don’t really believe the premise of the shooting. I think the shooters grasped that the holiday would provide a plausible-sounding EXCUSE for a shooting.
These losers want drama, and they got it.
The shooters are less stupid than is thought in this case.
If you wear a baseball cap with the wrong letter on it...

Read the article . We don’t know how they were dressed.
“Police did not say what led the attackers to conclude the boys were gang members.”

Arrest the stupid mayor, he made this stuff possible.
Necco wafers—yuck! That is such a good idea though. Next year I must remember that and hand out those things. There were NO kids trick or treating on my street this year. Just high school aged people and up. Many youths wore no costume. Though I had to wonder if a black hooded sweatshirt is supposed to be some kind of costume. When groups of a half dozen or more show up on the porch, no wonder a lot of people are hesitant to open the door.
“Stupid gang members and even more stupid parents of the kids who were allowed to go out dressed like that.”
Damn your good! No where in the article was it ever stated what the kids who were attacked were wearing, yet you were able to figure it out! I hope the producers of “Men Who Stare at Goats” hired you as a consultant!
Well the gang bangers felt they were dressed gang like enough to get stabbed and so forth.
The article gave the criminal reasoning, I take it that it was probably true, I doubt they were dressed like Jon and Kate +8.
