AP Sources: Dem Health bill to get AARP backing

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping health care overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

An endorsement from the seniors' lobby was critical when then-President George W. Bush pushed the Medicare prescription drug benefit through a closely divided Congress in 2003. House Democratic leaders are hoping it will work the same political magic for them as they strive to deliver on President Barack Obama's signature issue.

An announcement from the 40-million member group is expected Thursday, said officials with knowledge of the group's decision. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the endorsement is not official yet.

I keep throwing their invitations in the trash, along with the RNC donor requests."

What about those all important 'polls' ??? - You do answer them, don't you? (/sarc)

I was a youngish member of AARP until months ago when this dump AARP movement began — tens of thousands of us did cancel membership at that time.

What people need to know is that even if you purchased some form of AARP-sponsored insurance, like Aetna’s health plans, you do NOT need to STAY in AARP to keep your policies.

I checked this out and would encourage everyone still in AARP who wants to get out but fears insurance loss to just contact the insurance co. itself and ASK.

Aetna’s executive staff assured me they did not give a hoot about whether or not I was still in AARP — and I am still covered.

Translation: Backroom deals have been made and AARP has been assured that the “cuts to Medicare” are lies.

When you go to their website it is all about SIGNING a petition TO ENSURE HEALTHCARE reform!! NOWhere to express your views!!!!

When you call their number they just refer you to the website! What control!!!!!

We wouldn’t have AARP if our life depended on it...but we wanted to protest their support! No way to link to them.

Mailed AARP a 10 pound rock with postage due, 4 months ago. Had a note attached to don't send me "to join" letters anymore.

Haven't heard back yet.

I told my brother that a couple of days ago. He’s not a Conservative (well actually he unknowingly is in many ways), so he’s really getting an eye opener to what the Democrats are all about right now. So far he’s still not all the way to making the full connection, but I think his views will be irrevocably changed thanks to Obama.

I actually feel sorry for folks that thought he was going to be a breath of fresh air. A breath of stale 1930s air is more like it.

Look at who the head of the AARP is and it will answer many questions.
