Most House Democrats tried to put a good face on Tuesday's election results, saying they picked up two more votes for a sweeping health care bill that could be on the floor as early as Friday.
But it can't make Speaker Nancy Pelosi's job any easier as she works to corral those last holdouts she needs to approve the bill. Of course, the speaker, who told Politico recently she's "not big on showing weakness," brushed aside questions about how the election results would impact her final tally and instead trumped the two special election wins.
"From our perspective we won last night," Pelosi told reporters during a Wednesday morning photo opportunity. "We had one race that we were engaged in, it was in northern New York, it was a race where a Republican has held the seat since the Civil War and we won that seat, so from our standpoint, no, a candidate was victorious who supports health care reform, and his remarks last night said this was a victory for health care reform and other initiatives for the American people."
"So from our standpoint we picked up votes last night," a cheerful Pelosi said, "one in California and one in New York."

Compared to her constituents? No.
I truly believe Owens won by Fraud. Hoffman has been ahead the whole time. This stinks!! CO
Do not post any vulgar obscenity like that again.
A shameless lie, and the MS is not about to correct it. The Dems held the seat from 1979 to 1993.
Don’t let Pelosi get under your skin. Her approval rating is down at 20%. Last year no one knew who she was but they sure as hell knew who GWB was. But now they finally know her and dont like her.
I am actually very fond of her now and hope she is still speaker in 2011. She is our best friend.
I saw her say Tuesdays election was a HUGE victory for democrats, anyone wanna bet that Pelosi can get a passing vote on Health Reform tomorrow ? Because I am betting failure, Because since June I have been calling this Democrats Stalingrad.
Tuesday’s election for NY-23 was just a rehersal for 2010...
The district’s voters know who Hoffman is now...
He wont have any trouble getting the GOP nomination and then winning in Nov 2010
That Democrat is just keeping the seat warm for him...
:)
That was some unfolded Drama. Listening to FNC and talk radio Hoffman had an easy win. I felt better when I realized that election is again in a year with the others.
Obama is on a death spiral, enjoy the ride. We havent had much fun until this year. The most fun I had in politics the past 20 years was bringing down Clinton in 1993-1994 with the young Rush-bo.
Rats are trying to make NY-23 good news for them. MSNBC Olberman is the best for that. Republicans NEVER win on that show. I would love to meet a lib that believes his show the next year.
Did you hear that that the US postal service issued a Pelosi stamp? They noticed that when people used them, the letters never arrived. They finally figured out that people were spitting on the wrong side....
You really dont like her!
I always found her entertaining , but 2006-2008 she was able to cause big problems as an unknown even as Speaker. But now she is on show as speaker of majority. Good show.
Holy crap vote was just 220-215. Pelosi actually pulled it off. I lost that bet I admit it(last reply last night), even with the abortion amendment passed to get pro-abortionists upset. That one was a gem.
Well, it took Pelosi till November to get her 218. I will give her credit. This keeps it alive. She looks so happy!
This morning MSNBC was saying that Obama WH was telling democrats in trouble that they will lose election even if they vote against it so they might as well vote for it.
“Did you hear that that the US postal service issued a Pelosi stamp? They noticed that when people used them, the letters never arrived. They finally figured out that people were spitting on the wrong side....”
No, they were spitting on the right side ;-)
The part I liked the most was how she sold out her NOW/NARAL sisters on Abortion getting them to vote for the bill. They are mad!!! If she will sell them out, she will sell out the public plan progressives if she has to. Assuming they are willing to cave like the pro-choice abortees did.
If Reid is right and he cant get to a bill by January 2010 , we got this bill sitting out there alone to be hacked apart for months.
L M A O !!
A+
I don't think she "sold out." It's a thinly concealed swindle. Guess who is who in the following.
Yeah, I guess I could have said the "non-sticky" side but that's harder to say.
I hope you are right, but it's best not to underestimate our enemies. Passing Obamacare in the House is a double edged sword for the Dems. It angers a lot of sane voters, but it also encourages the leftist nuts. It's possible that more of the Obama crowd will vote in 2010, especially if it makes it through the senate and the conference committee turns it into something that looks a lot like the house bill, and they get the same idiots to vote for the conference bill. "We have to pass this now -- we have worked so hard...."
I saw Debbie Wassman say this as well as others, am watching MSNBC tonight for more. They are claiming Obama doesnt like the amendment( on Olbermann) . Certainly that is what they are being told.
Pro-aborts want to get on the ‘we will sink the bill or else’ line. The problem may re-appear later then.
There is incredible irony in the amendment. One of the goals of the house reform is to get Men to pay for women only procedures/treatments. So now they have to pay for their own abortion coverage,
