Most House Democrats tried to put a good face on Tuesday's election results, saying they picked up two more votes for a sweeping health care bill that could be on the floor as early as Friday.
But it can't make Speaker Nancy Pelosi's job any easier as she works to corral those last holdouts she needs to approve the bill. Of course, the speaker, who told Politico recently she's "not big on showing weakness," brushed aside questions about how the election results would impact her final tally and instead trumped the two special election wins.
"From our perspective we won last night," Pelosi told reporters during a Wednesday morning photo opportunity. "We had one race that we were engaged in, it was in northern New York, it was a race where a Republican has held the seat since the Civil War and we won that seat, so from our standpoint, no, a candidate was victorious who supports health care reform, and his remarks last night said this was a victory for health care reform and other initiatives for the American people."
"So from our standpoint we picked up votes last night," a cheerful Pelosi said, "one in California and one in New York."

No, she’s that deceitful.
That’s it Nancy!...just keep your head up your @#$!.....
The DID pick up another seat that will vote yes.
They DID pick up another seat that will vote yes.
From my prospective....we could really use more of this kind of Democratic “winning”. If there is anything we could do....to help make this “winning” a big deal in November of 2010....then we’d all like to help make that happen.
The California seat was already a D. Dumb as a box o’ rocks!
Really? And the so-called Republican in the 23rd who is more liberal than the Dem who won would have stood up against Pelosi?
Think again.
Queen Pelosi, Speaker of the Sewer. Hey Nancy, we’re going to drain your sewer next year. RAT and RINO waste will be flushed.
lol
News to Pelosi: One of those 2 seats was a Dem seat anyway. As for Owens, if he votes for Marxist care, he’ll be unemployed in a year and I think he’s smart enough to know that. So you gained no new votes there honey. Go have another facelift.
We’ll see how smug she is this time next year.
She voted for the Democrat in this particular election.
Pussolini is easily THE STUPIDEST human on the planet.
Nobody even comes close.
Nancy would have had this vote with Dede Scozzafava as well. Our only hope of her not getting this vote was Hoffman. In the long run it’s a win for conservatives because Owens is probably more moderate that Dede would have been.
Owens has to run again in less than a year. Let's see how much he falls in line with the Pelosi army.
Chances are the Repubs of New York will get their crap together and get a real candidate that can represent 23. Unfortunately Hoffman didn't have too much going; didn't live in the district, didn't know much about the district issues, didn't have much charisma.......That being said he did well for a late comer with no recognition or money.
I still can’t believe she’s running the country.
This is just surreal to me.
She really is that dumb. Without her talking points and staff to point her in the right direction, she is clueless. The seat in CA was always a Dem. seat. She probably ought not to count the one in NY as a yes on Health Care yet. If he does vote with her, he’s a sure gonner in 2010 (which will probably happen anyway).
I have to say I can’t wait for this b*tch to croke

This is BS.
